I agree! It's a pain to navigate to the gradebook and then to the Dashboard to find the next assignment that needs grading in the "to do" list.
100%! This is my biggest pet peeve with Canvas. I have several students with an IEP who are allowed to submit assignments late for full credit. I usually have to keep two windows open just to override...
