I like to hold my weekly office hours through the Chat feature on Canvas, and I think a direct-messaging option would really elevate the chatroom and help connect with students in a more personalized way. Usually students ask questions that can be answered in a way that's useful to others in the class/chatroom, but sometimes they ask about things better fit for a 1-on-1 response, and I think a pop out dm feature would be helpful for that. I know there are other workarounds for this (emailing them directly while in chat, using Zoom instead), but I think this would be a small yet major improvement to an already strong interface.
