Hi Cody,
Thanks for that. I suppose my gripe is that when the Student Analysis report is downloaded, the columns are titled very badly and give no information about what each column represents. It looks as if there has been no work done on formatting of the report since the data download was originally designed.
It would be very valuable if someone has produced a key to what each column means rather than having to sit down each time and try to nut it out.
Barbara.

Hi Cody,
Thanks very much for your reply. You are correct that the PDF refers to the Item Analysis CSV file.
I would be grateful if you are able to point me to any resource that explains the Student Analysis CSV. I would like to be able to provide an explanation for academics who wish to retain a copy of student responses to a quiz/survey outside of Canvas. I find that the CSV file is almost impossible to interpret (including the poorly-labelled columns following the question columns) unless you are prepared to spend a lot of time comparing the file with the actual student responses and then guessing what each column represents.
Thanks.
Regards, Barbara.

The Canvas Guide page https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/Once-I-publish-a-quiz-what-kinds-of-quiz-statistics-are/ta-p/659 discusses the "Student Analysis" report that can be downloaded (both for quizzes and surveys). The resulting CSV file does not have informative headers to enable you to work out the use of each column. (For example, some columns have the header "1" - very informative).
The Canvas guide has a link to a PDF https://s3.amazonaws.com/tr-learncanvas/docs/CanvasQuizItemAnalysis.pdf, The section titled "CSV Information" refers to a number of columns but I find that the information provided is almost unusable as it is impossible to relate the listed calculations and counts to the headers in the CSV file. I wish to provide a summary for staff so that they will be able to interpret their own download instead of having to spend a number of hours trying to work out what the CSV file means so does anyone have a summary of what each column in the CSV file represents?

Since the deployment of the "new" rich content editor, the label has been updated ("New Rich Content Editor" is now called "Rich Content Editor"). In addition, the URL of resources has been updated. For example, last week this URL was "https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-use-the-menubar-in-the-New-Rich-Content-Editor-as-an/ta-p/931". This week it is "https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-use-the-menubar-in-the-Rich-Content-Editor-as-an/ta-p/931".
Can you tell me how long redirection of links will be in place? Is there any plan to stop redirecting the links (which would result in current URLs no longer working).
Thanks.

Hi, This is a comment about the new icons for the plagiarism result in the new Gradebook. I can see how these icons have been designed to be more assessible for people who are colour-blind since, not only is there a colour but also a difference in each icon pattern. i.e. 0% - 20% = green with tick. 20% - 60% = half filled. > 60 % = fully fillled. However, I find the icon for 0% - 20% (green with tick) worrying. In the case of an academic who is not familiar with Turnitin, I feel that the display of this ticked icon in the Canvas Gradebook endorses the student submission; i.e. it seems to suggest to me that 0% - 20% similarity is OK and nothing to worry about. In actual fact, I have read that any degree of similarity should be investigated. Whereas 20% over a number of sources may be OK, 20% from just one source could indicate significant plagiarism. In summary, I think that the tick in the icon is misleading and should not be used. (I'm not sure what to replace it with but one of the suggestions that my workmate came up with, is to replace the 0% - 20% (green with tick) with a green empty circle).

Hi Ken, Thanks for that. When I manually expanded the column, "MANUAL" was displayed instead of "M". Can you tell me if you know of any way of doing this in one action for all the columns? I can see this being a problem in the future when the New Gradebook is implemented for everyone.

I'm a bit confused about when you choose to Post Grades. There are two options: Everyone (Grades will be made visible to all students) and Graded (Grades will be made visible to students with graded submissions). Surely, the only student who will benefit from viewing their posted grade would be one who had been graded? (I presume that if the student hasn't been graded yet then they would not see any alteration to their submission so they don't gain anything by viewing it). Maybe the first option refers to submissions which have comments but no grade yet? I know that this change to muting grades is still evolving but, when the sidebar opens, can you please add some information about what each of these options mean? (It is easy for staff to choose an incorrect option when it is unclear about what each option involves). Thanks.

Hi All, @kblack @kona stefaniesanders This seems to be a very useful document even though it was written in 2016 and I have drawn it to the attention of staff using Canvas. Can anyone tell me if the information in the table is still correct in 2018 and if there is any updated information that should be included in this table? Thanks.

With regard to the section about Outcomes Extra Credit, can you tell me what is the effect on the Learning Mastery Gradebook if extra credit is give to an Outcome in a rubric? Will it display as Exceeds Mastery (given when the student gets the maximum points allocated to the Outcome) or will an extra category be added since the student has received more points than allocated as maximum for the Outcome)? Thanks.

I see that the bug in range rubrics still continues. When using a range rubric and you choose a value in the middle of the range, the highlighted cell is not displayed for all users. The instructor who created the rubric sees the correct view i.e. the correct cell is highlighted when a value within the range is chosen. Instructor view: However, when the student (and apparently, any other instructor who did not mark the rubric) views the rubric, the cell for the chosen range is not highlighted. Student view:

The new ranges rubric has just been activated on the production server. I just tried it by getting a fake student to make a submission and then marking it. Case 1: I just clicked on one of the ratings in each row. The maximum in the rating was allocated for the row and the rating highlighted in green. The rubric displayed correctly for the student displaying the points for the row and the highlighted rating in each row. Case 2: I wrote an amount of points which was between the minimum and maximum for one of the ratings. The rubric displays correctly for the instructor with the relevant rating displayed: However, when the student displays the rubric, the points are correct but the selected ratings are not selected: I presume that this will be the most common way that a ranges rubric will be used so can something be done to correct this bug?

Qualitative rubrics are very popular and I believe that Canvas should offer this functionality. I tried to make the normal rubric into a qualitative rubric by allocating 0 marks to each rating. However, the marked rubric doesn't display properly for students - it selects the rightmost cell in each row!

The gradebook is used to record student marks but it is also used to record other information pertaining to the student. The information may be associated with the student enrolment or it may be information provided to the student. My request: I would like the ability to create a column which contains text but CAN be visible to the student. For example, it could be used to inform the student and the staff of the name of the tutor assigned to the student as well as maintaining a record of the information at an obvious and convenient location for posterity. Point 1: There are two ways of implementing this. In some cases the text column would be associated with a grading scheme and in other cases it would just be a text column (similar to the notes column but visible to the student and downloadable to Excel so it can be kept as a record). Point 2: If the text column was associated with a grading scheme then I think it would be important to give staff the option of only displaying the 'name' to the student. Frequently staff do not wish students to see the 'numerical value' associated with a grading scheme name as in the screenshot of a student's Grades shown just below. gradebook;

Hi Stephanie, I am concerned because the page I mentioned seems to suggest that resources can be previewed. Conversely, it is phrased poorly so I got that impression - I don't always have a lot of time to be able to decipher what the writer actually means. I assume that documents in the guides contain correct information and am worried when I find this is not the case or that I got the wrong impression when I read it. Does this mean that I need to check everything rather than believing what I read?

I'm very confused about this. The Canvas documentation https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-11216-38287725343 says that you CAN preview resources within a course. Why does that document show that you can preview resources when this idea in Product Radar indicates that you CAN'T preview resources?

I am particularly interested in being able to add the Test Student to a course group. This enables instructors to view the behaviour of groups and be assured that only group members can access group material. This matter is something that instructors commonly ask for assurance about in Blackboard.
