Some of us have been begging for years for this to happen. The only alternative I can see is for Canvas to allow for randomized plug-ins for non-Quiz assignments so you can have randomized writing prompts in an untimed environment. (I suppose you could then limit the Availability time to basically give a timed assessment...) This is an arms race. We are to the point where essay questions show up in Chegg and CourseHero within an hour of being released. And while we can talk about pro-active pedagogies, we cannot give up on enforcing the rules we have.

I have a shell with three sections of students in it, well over fifty total students. I have done two sections cross-listed before without issue, but now I have noticed when attempting to run SpeedGrader that it is giving me an error message requesting me to select a section. HOWEVER, from the SpeedGrader menu, the option to select a specific section is not working. Now by contrast, if I go into Grades and Filter By > Section, and go to an Assignment and access SpeedGrader from the Grades menu, it works normally for that section of students. Anyone have any ideas here as to what's going on?

Howdy! I am currently mentoring a group of faculty during their "unscheduled introduction to the Canvas Community." One of the big challenges we've faced is doing their "traditional" classes online, but the Conferences tool is a fantastic resource. However, today, one of them emailed me to say that "some outside outfit" had gatecrashed his Conference and forced him to abandon the session. I went in (with Teacher privileges) to investigate, but he had failed to record the session. Can users within a shell disguise their identities so that they do not display properly in the Public Chat window? Can users not enrolled in a shell participate in a BBB Conference, say by just getting the link? For that matter, is BBB still running on Flash, or did they finally go to HTML5? If a Conference was not recorded, is there any way for a Teacher/Designer to go in and retrieve Conference logs, or does that require Administrative-level intervention? One of the reasons I prefer Conferences to Zoom or Webex is the lower likelihood of gatecrashers. I hope this is still the case, and that one of the students was being a jerk (and, if we can retrieve the logs, we can deal with that student severely).

Amen to integration! There is a short-term workaround, however. You can download all responses to an individual question (comes out in a spreadsheet), copy the column with the responses, and paste it into a Word document (and do a little clean-up on formatting). Next, create a Turnitin assignment called "Exam Scan" or some such and upload the file for scanning. (I often go directly to Turnitin to do the upload.) This does tend to bog down, however, if you have a significant number of individual short answer questions to handle on a given exam.

I don't think you can, alas. In an ideal world, Video Quiz would allow you to create a pool of questions for a given spot in the video, allowing for a bit of randomness. This would cut down a bit on the "Skip to 3:20 and mark 'C'" business that goes on and make them watch the video --until, of course, the entire pool's contents are known and "If it gives you this question, mark 'C' and if it's the other question, mark 'D.' "

I, too, have this question, as it relates to PeopleSoft. Right now we waste an inordinate amount of hours at the end of each term from having to manually enter grades to PS. An ability to pass grades from Canvas directly to PeopleSoft would be a boon.

No solution has yet been uncovered. I ended up having to take the original video and embed it in the instructions to a regular quiz, which I flagged to allow unlimited attempts. This is not as elegant a solution as I desired, because students can and do just keep trying answers until they get it right. Also, I suspect they share answers --at least in the Video Quiz, they'd have to sit through the entire video to get to the last question.

Yes, please. This would make exam editing a lot faster, particularly for an instructor who truly wants to combine, say, multiple chapters into a single pool.

Is there a faster way to move multiple questions between banks? I am importing custom banks from offline for merger into my existing banks, and once I import them, I go to Move Multiple Questions (from inside Manage Question Banks window, after opening the newly-imported bank). But then, I have to click each individual question box in its turn (which is a pain considering how small the window view is, but that's another issue...). Am I missing something? How feasible would it be to put a Select All box at the top of the window? This would make my task much easier. I also suppose a option to Merge Question Banks at the Manage Question Banks window would also be nice, but there probably is not as much call for that feature.

Okay, I am seeing in the Grades sheet that when you click on an individual Assignment, you have the option to "Message students who scored less than [or greater than]." This is a good thing, and I am glad it is here. Now, could we also add this level of functionality at the Assignment Group level?

We are using Kaltura to do our media content, and one of the options is Video Quiz (external tool), where you can take a video and insert/overlay questions during the playback, and the results are automatically put into Grades. However, I have discovered that there is apparently no way (e.g. using Edit Assignment) to allow multiple attempts at the quiz. This seems awkward. Is there something I have missed, or a setting at the Admin level that needs to be turned on to allow this?

Yes! I would love the ability to have the "Send Message" to students from their individualized grade sheet. But let us not stop there. If we can "Send Message to Students Who..." for individual assignments, why can't we also do it for grade categories, and for course totals? I just sent out midterm progress reports for everyone failing the course by using the "send as individual messages" and picking out names (I used two windows, one on Grades and the other on Inbox), but it would have been much easier if I could have done this from the Totals column.

Yes, I am grading exams right now using the grade-by-question beta, and while it's a step in the right direction, it's a bit cumbersome. The points field for each question is located at the top rather than the bottom with the comments field, and there is a delay switching from student to student --plus you have to Submit Score each time or else the points get lost. Something akin to what Moodle/Joule uses, with all the responses on one screen (or only some, depending on how many responses you elect to have the system display at a time), would really speed things up. You could probably keep the option to not display students' names as well.
