Here is another forum discussing a similar issue, which was initiated in 2020. Either one of these developments would be a net positive; I either want to be able to be able to grant another attempt without deleting the first submission, or I want to be able to delete the first submission to reopen the attempt. The former is preferred, but realistically either option would suffice.

Please consider adding this feature; as midterms come around, more and more faculty are becoming frustrated with this lack of functionality.

Just commenting here again to bring the conversation back. As we're in our first full semester of Canvas, many faculty members are realizing there's a column for each assignment group in the Grades area with no way of hiding it from themselves. This is not user-friendly and a toggle should be made to turn this feature on and off.

Problem statement: It is difficult to track exactly how many students received a certain grade on a Quiz, as it only shows the X-axis in the Quiz and Item Analysis interface. @kgish Exactly! This is a common thing that needs to be done, so I'm not sure why it isn't it Canvas' core functionality.

@Judie_K It is especially important for institutions new to Canvas. People are going to make mistakes when using a new system.

Seems that there hasn't been a solution yet so I'll jump on the bandwagon. Faculty I work with have found this incredibly frustrating. It doesn't seem like this is going to be addressed, so does anyone have any viable workarounds?

@RobertBierman That's our main issue at our institution; our old LMS had this functionality, so it's difficult to sell Canvas as the better LMS. I'm hoping that a feature is developed to either let instructors delete an attempt or add additional attempts on an individual basis (like you can in Quizzes).

Thank you for this workaround, but it does not solve the issue. Many LMS competitors grant instructors the ability to delete an individual submission and/or grant additional attempts on an individual basis. In fact, Canvas lets you do the latter in the Classic Quizzes interface, so I'm not sure why it's not a feature for Assignments. This is a necessary function that needs to be developed. I hear consistent complaints about how we were able to do this in our University's prior LMS.

Many Instructors I have worked with have expressed their frustration about how they cannot hide the Assignment Group columns from themselves in the Grades area. We're aware of the ability to hide totals in the student grades summary, but that does not change anything in the Grades area for Teachers, nor does it actually get rid of the rows for Students; it just hides their scores. The Grades area tends to get cluttered easily, so anything to make it more neat would be helpful.

Hi Adam, Just to get the ball rolling on ideas: If the questions on the spectacles will be uniform for all students, you could have the initial question be something akin to, "Please provide your assigned Spectacle ID". Then they can answer the rest of the questions in accordance with their assigned pair. Of course, this wouldn't work if the questions will be unique depending on the pair, but I wanted to provide an idea in case this is what you were going for. Is your intent that the students provide their own feedback, or that they would receive immediate feedback based on what they entered for the ID/measurements? If it's the latter, I'm not entirely sure if such a feature exists in Canvas.

I know this post is from years ago, but I thought it'd be worth mentioning that I was able to cancel a course import using the "Reset Course Content" feature.

Similar to how Classic Quizzes provides instructors with the ability to grade question by question, it would be useful if New Quizzes had the same feature. Many of our faculty members are used to the feature being available in our old LMS.

It doesn't seem like there's a way to allow an additional attempt on Assignments for individual students. It seems like a workaround using the "Assign To" and "Available Until" features is possible, but it's a bit tedious compared to having a simple "allow additional attempt" button like in Quizzes.
