I just spoke with an instructor on MacOS Big Sur (11.7.4), who is having the problem. It is definitely not browser-related, since she has the latest version of Chrome, as well as Safari, and both fail to load the Grades page. She is in the process of upgrading the OS, and will report back. I know that a lot of our faculty (including me) do not do major updates to the OS in the middle of the semester, so this is very unfortunate that a Canvas update breaks a critical functionality in the middle of a semester. The only guidance that Instructure gives regarding OS is that it must be able to run the supported browser versions, which is not sufficient to avoid this issue.

@jonespm, Sorry, that should have been 15.3, not 3.15. According to the Canvas Community page, What are the browser and computer requirements for Instructure products?, Safari 15 should be fine. Yes, they do recommend that the user use the most recent of everything, but that's not always possible. Unfortunately, many universities have computers locked down so that the user can't update anything themselves, and the updates that are pushed by IT are often quite a bit out-of-date. In addition, many people (including me) prefer not to make major updates at critical times in the semester, due to having been burned by that in the past. If something that they updated rendered a currently listed version of Safari unusable with Canvas, then perhaps they should update the requirements page.

One of the instructors that I support is having the same problem. She is on a Mac, using Safari 5.13, and the Grades page only loads the top of the page, with the shortcut icon. Clearing the cache doesn't help. Next step will be trying a different browser, but this instructor has never used any other browser, from what I can tell.

I'm not clear on where you are trying to add the grades--on the Grades page or in the SpeedGrader for that assignment. If it's the Grades page (gradebook), you should be able to click into the cells in that assignment column for each student and enter a score. If it's the SpeedGrader, you should be able to enter the grade in the provided box. If these locations aren't accepting entry of values, the first thing to check is the assignment settings, to make sure you don't have "Display grade as" set to Not Graded. When you say it won't let you enter grades, do you mean there isn't a spot to do so, you get an error message, or something else? Best, Suzanne

According to the Status page: Some Canvas Community redirects still not working Resolved - Users are now able to access the Canvas Community as expected. Aug 7, 14:20 MDT However, while some progress has been made, all is NOT resolved. Based on my experience, both from links in our help sites and using Google to try to find the guides, some links seem to be redirecting (no longer broken), but others are still broken. Some links now go to the incorrect page. For example, the link that had formerly gone to "What are Announcements" has started to go to "What are new analytics". If you search Google for Canvas What are Announcements, the first hit shows a snippet of the correct page, but if you click through, you get to learn about New Analytics. This is very frustrating. We start our orientations for new students and students who will be shifting to online on Monday, and I don't appreciate having to spend my weekend searching for and fixing not only links that go to the Page not found message, but also to incorrect pages. I hope this is fixed sooner, rather than later. Best, Suzanne

We are seeing the same issue (Mac, Safari, images not showing even with cross-site tracking and cleared data), but ONLY for images that were uploaded before a specific date. I haven't narrowed down the date so far, but it is sometime in late summer/early fall 2018. Images uploaded before that don't display, and ones uploaded after do. The only fix is to download or otherwise find the images and re-upload and re-insert them. For our more image-intensive courses, this just isn't feasible. Best, Suzanne

OK. Really, though, the point of my comment wasn't so much whether it was "on the radar" as that the problem has existed for a relatively long time, and that maybe it should be time to find a solution to the problem that doesn't require patches and scripts. Without this fix, the ability to drag an assignment on the calendar can be seen as a bug, not a feature.

Ditto. I am still not promoting the drag to a new date in the calendar capability, because it causes so many problems. I know that there are products and scripts to try to make up for this flawed implementation, but isn't it time to maybe move from being on the radar to actually being fixed. Third-party patches are good--to a point--but the need to find and implement these patches just makes my faculty cranky!

Hi all, I hope that I am posting this in the correct place. I happen to have five students in my class this term that are blind or low vision, using either screen readers or high levels of screen magnification. One of my students sent me the following: I have noticed that when using the Canvas App, the announcements tend to overlap each other when using an iPhone and large text is on. I also noticed this happening in part of the messaging feature as well. I haven't seen any discussion of accessibility related to the mobile app. Is that because I'm just missing the discussion/looking in the wrong place, because nobody else is hearing about problems, or ...? I can also echo the first issue. In additional to the behavior described when clicking the link, if the user clicks the preview icon to use the document previewer to view the file, the icon disappears, but the previewer does not open. Again, this is only for file added since the update. This is a very serious issue for us, as we are in the process of developing our Spring courses, and time is running short.

I would like to know, too, if there has been any progress on this. We are just starting up on Canvas, and I would love to be able to promote the ability to move items on the calendar as a strong selling point (to offset some of the pain of having to move to a new LMS). However, with this problem, I can't advocate for it, unless the instructor is one who permits late submission (and therefore doesn't use Available Until dates. For anyone importing from Moodle, though, be warned that "Cut-off" dates appear to automatically come in as Available Until dates. This means that, even with date adjustments on import, the move-on-calendar method will cause problems for these items.
