We operate a large college testing center (250+ seats) and coordinate remote proctoring at a number of distant locations. Most of the exams we proctor are in Canvas. Entering passwords for every student's exam on the computers in our testing center is time-consuming, so we've recently asked our main-campus instructors to switch to IP address rather than access code for exam security. This works for a relatively small number of known IP addresses, but we've had to limit our use of this approach given the sheer number of potential IP addresses for online courses with remote proctors (even if we tracked these, the 255-character limit in the IP address field would stop us). However, if Canvas first checked the IP address and then prompted for an access code only if the IP address wasn't on the whitelist, we could use this approach for all our exams and let us spend more of our time proctoring. (As I understand it, at present if both items have been specified, both are required.) Thanks for considering!

I came here via the link from the Analytics 2 page. Although I'd love to sit through the entire 45 minutes, I'm getting the feeling it's not all about that. Anyone know the timecode for the point at which he starts talking about it?

Good idea. In fact, is there a reason you couldn't just make the whole image a link? That is, is there a concern that someone might expect something different to happen if they clicked elsewhere on the image?

Kona, I don't see any mention in that Quizzes.Next link about problems with TAs grading in the *new gradebook* itself. Is that just a given that problems with the Quizzes LTI are also inherent in the new gradebook?

Love this, thank you! We've been using a well-known course quality rubric that has many of the same instructional-design components as this, but what I like about your checklist is the detail on universal design and especially information architecture & structure. This will be very useful.

I have not tried it in this context, but in the past I have used quiz generator sites (like this and this) to turn a Word doc into a quiz bank for Blackboard. Since Canvas will import Bb quiz files (right?), this might be a workaround. Would love to know if anyone tries it.

Just adding another voice in favor of a can't-take-it-back anonymous feature. We recently migrated to Canvas from a competing LMS that had this feature and it's sorely missed (and I only discovered this bug--I agree with @Matt Lewis that "bug" is the correct label--by accident). While we use an external tool for formal end-of-term evaluations, a true anonymous survey tool in Canvas would be very helpful for instructors who want to administer midterm surveys to make course corrections. #anonymous&moderated

It's not surprising that this makes you think of Snow Crash. According to a piece in i09, "Second Life founder Philip Rosedale says Snow Crash made him feel as though 'A person had written a novel about what I very practically had been thinking about my whole life.'" I haven't yet run across Hiro Protagonist in either SL or an OS grid, though. 🙂

Very interested in this topic though I haven't directly incorporated it into my teaching. Have done several research projects using SL and Opensim, most recently this one. Looking forward to seeing some Canvas connections. Joseph Clark Florida State University
