kind of an alternative suggestion since i like this idea- allow instructors to choose how many decimals (0%, 0.0%, 0.00%, 0.000%)

yes! there could also be a way for instructors to select outliers when looking at averages. If a student is at the grades page, a button to show missing assignments as "missing" and not as a 0 at all (showing their average for completed assignments aka how well they know the material) (also helping to isolate what they still need to do)

I love this idea! Also, in terms of interactive quizzes, my professor uses Macmillon Learning Tools/ Achieve and it gives you feedback on questions that are incorrect without giving you the answer, resources (like a link to a periodic table for chem.) etc and its awesome and more instructors should use it.

i like this idea! a classmate of mine gets a lot of absences due to cardiovascular issues, but she still communicates with the professor and gets the work done. Just looking at her absence percent wouldnt accurately say anything other than how many absences she has. Also, similarly, potentially a way to have an "alternative" mark so if the student is absent but is there via zoom, facetime, etc or if they come in on a make-up day or do an assignment to make up for the missed class then it can say that

I think it would be hurtful to the students to take it away. Knowing the point worth also means that if a student isnt as strong on a question thats worth less, they dont worry as much which means their responses will be better (because better mental health means better functioning); and in terms of the point you brought up of knowing how much of a response to give; for open response questions, if the instructor does not give the students how much of an answer is expected, then it is the instructor's, and only the instructor's, fault if the student gives too much or too little of a response. Instructors should not be grading on things irrelevant to what is being taught- for instance if I have trouble with spelling (and I should not need a dyslexia diagnosis for this to be true) and I am not in a language class, it should not matter as long as it is understood what exactly I am trying to write. If I get the answer correct in one sentence with all the expected parts, and was expected to have 3 sentences, i should not get points off. If the reasoning is that you do want students to have everything memorized, then it should be a low-point worth quiz, in which case you can split it up. Memorizing is hard and the idea of memorizing every word, equation, etc without reference ONLY uses working and short term memory. Utilizing the material uses long term memory, so providing the expected amount of response helps the student show what they actually know.

I think if there was an option for students and instructors under "account" to put a preferred name and pronouns, and it could show up in the formal preferred name format of "Bobby (Robert Smith) (they/them)" or the other way with the preferred name in parenthesis.

As a student i think this would be great! for college students or students in classes without assigned seating it could help with knowing our classmates names since there is nowhere that says that (even just first name) and for classes with assigned seating it would be great especially if it changes. Would also be good for when theres assigned partners or changing the seating for exams.

For us students, we can currently only sort grades by module, name, due date, and assignment group. It would be extremely helpful if they could be sorted by grade so we can see what we need to work on more. There could be 2 sets of sorting option- lowest/highest by grade percentage (for 7/10 vs 40/100, the 40 is a lower percent) and lowest/highest by numerical grade/weight (as in 7/10 vs 40/100, the 7 is a lower number).
