I'd like to see this as an option as well, especially when the GoogleDrive LTI is so inconsistent. It would be nice to have both that AND file attachment as an option, as we can do in GoogleClassroom.

Adding my vote as well, especially to disable it for teachers. Because of the to-do list, I have to turn notification badge off for the app, making it harder for me to know when students have messaged...

Adding my vote; I teach in a high school district that just switched to Canvas and we have quite a bit of student movement throughout the year; it's a pain if their submissions don't follow them.
