Hi, Davey. Do you think something like a "turned in" flag would help you and your parents? As a teacher, I would love a "turned in" flag with the grade where you see "Late, Missing, and Excused" As an English teacher, students submit assignments that take me days to grade; however, I get an influx of emails from parents complaining that they don't know if their kids turned it or didn't until I get done grading it. I think this part of what you are saying when your "parents assume the worst." If your teacher could mark it "turned in," your parents would know you did it, but the teacher is still grading it. I would love a "turned in" flag with the drop down "None, Late, Missing, and Excused" or in the drop down in the gradebook for an assignment. I could assign it to all that don't have a zero. As an English teacher, students submit assignments that take me days to grade; however, I get an influx of emails from parents complaining that they don't know if their kids turned it or didn't until I get done grading it.

Middle school students don't always have phones and the ones that do take terrible pictures of their assignments. A hybrid option through Canvas is a great solution.

I actually LOVE this feature. When we went to a hybrid model, I had student submitting online and students submitting on paper. Any student that submitted on paper had a missing flag even with the grade listed unlisted I went in and hand removed them all. Having this feature allows me to offer an online and paper submission options without a lot of extra work on my part. I do put in zeroes, but much less than the number of students submitting on paper. So I make one or two additions of the missing flag instead of 50+ removals.
