Hi Luke, disabling this permission would work however the consequence would be that teachers cannot edit any assignment or quiz. If you allow teachers to add their own content to a course this could be challenging. We Blueprint everything which allows us to lock 'master content'. This content cannot be changed in associated courses but allows teachers the flexibility of still creating/editing their own assignments/quizzes in their live course. Edits can be made to assignments and quizzes in the Blueprint and synced to associated courses but only by those who have access. Of course there are consequences with the use of Blueprints too but worth looking into. Marita

Also looking at not populating the Learning Mastery colours to criteria when the remove points option is selected would be great. This would allow us to use the criteria ratings for observation locations etc. ratings that are not aligned to outcomes. Example: If you create a rubric with criteria only, remove the points and there are three ratings then the student will see green, yellow and red against the rating selection. This is related to the traffic light system we applied to our outcomes however we are selecting criteria within the rubric, not outcomes. Please see student view in attached image if the learning mastery colours filter trough to criteria ratings in rubrics when the points are removed.

Searching for good strategies or a tool to manage multiple observations at once. Scenario: A teacher is managing multiple students in a workshop and needs to acknowledge individual student achievement and make comment against identified performance tasks. Currently they are using a rubric attached to an assignment on a mobile device however the challenge is they must use the dropdown box, arrows or open multiple tabs. This can lead to confusion while undertaking multiple observations at once. The unicorn solution: A way to mark off performance tasks against a group of students, acknowledging individual achievement, not a group assignment. Ideally a rubric (or similar) that lists the student group and tasks, feeding the marks into the speedgrader or individual assignment/rubric. We have explored the use of outcomes in this scenario however the challenge of how to mark individual achievement against a group of students remains. Looking forward to any creative solutions or comment.

1) Full RCE capabilities, the RCE needs to be comparable to existing RCE.
2) They must work seamlessly with Blueprints, until this happens we cannot even start thinking about transitioning. We must be able to update a quiz that has previously been synced to an associated course.
3) A 12 month transition period once all features are fully implemented. Classic quiz updates need to included in this. Currently we cannot update after December 2022 but because of the blueprint timeline cannot start transitioning until July next year, 6 months is not sufficient time to undertake this work.

Hi, Not sure I have an answer however it may be worth looking into the Faculty Journal. I think this has to be turned on by your CSM (could be wrong).
It's a place where instructors can take notes about a student that the student cannot see. Any instructor can see all notes for a specific student, regardless of who made the notes, so its a record per student not per course.
Not sure if you can export the content or if its appropriate that all teachers can see the record, might be a good starting place.

@BenFriedman I would love to discuss our use of outcomes for the VET sector however when I try and book the only available times are between 2am and 6am AEST.
Are there other options?
Kind regards

Just wondering if anyone has a great idea to manage assignment extension requests?
We have looked at this a number of times and have come up with some options, each option has pros and cons.
Link the Inbox to each assignment. This requires the student to correctly enter the assignment title however the request can be lost within a large number of communications.
Ask students to document their request in the text entry box. Many of our assignments are set to one attempt to ensure meaningful teacher feedback is provided prior to allowing additional attempts. If students use the text entry for communication then teachers will need to assign additional attempts when a genuine one has not yet occurred. It also means that students must enter the same request for each task when in actual fact it may be the whole unit that needs to be considered (this can sometimes be over 5 assignments).
An assignment with unlimited attempts linked to an Unit Assessment Overview to allow for extension requests for any task within that unit. This method still relies on students inputting the correct task name and number, it could also fill the Gradebook with unnecessary white noise.
One quiz/survey with unlimited attempts that identifies every assessment task for the qualification or unit and asks the student to select the task/s they require an extension for. This allows for less student error as they do not have to include the correct code and title however requires maintenance if the task titles are edited or tasks are added or removed.
Would appreciate some advice or ideas on how others manage these requests.
I found this idea which may assist however will not help in the short term: Idea Conversation

Hi Leisa,
Have popped a couple of notes beside each of your questions below:
assessment evidence being kept for the 6 month period - do you just use Canvas or do you download and save into your individual student files?
We retain all our evidence in Canvas, we do not download anything.
assessment outcomes (for 1st and other attempts) - do you save each individual's assessors comment into their student files?
All evidence is retained in Canvas, we don;t download anything. We use Outcomes for Assessment Record purposes (achievement of the unit) so they do not relate to attempts. Outcomes are obviously attached to a rubric and if you use the ratings within the rubric more than once then the evidence of the first rating selection(s) is not retained. The new student Assignment Enhancements do address tracking of the rubric rating selection but the same view is not available for teachers yet (fingers crossed it happens soon) which can make feedback confusing. We use 1 assignment per attempt until the new Teacher Assignment Enhancements are released.
We achieved maximum registration last year where most of our evidence throughout the audit process was displayed in Canvas.

This is a huge leap forward however we still continue to have the issue that if a teacher uses a rubric more than once the evidence of the first criteria selection is lost. For example, an assignment has 3 attempts, on the first attempt Criteria 1 in the rubric is marked as not satisfactory, on attempt 2 Criteria 1 in the rubric is marked as satisfactory. The student view allows them to see the not satisfactory (attempt 1) and satisfactory (attempt 2) in the rubric (perfect!) however once the teacher changes Criteria 1 (from not satisfactory to satisfactory) in attempt 2 the teacher view loses the ability to see the unsatisfactory Criteria 1 rating from attempt 1. This is giving the student and teacher a different view of the rubric for the same assignment and the same attempt and does not allow us to meet our regulatory standards. If the student view was replicated for the teacher then this update would be perfect.

A couple of our biggest concerns: evidence (criteria selections) from a rubric are overwritten if used more than once and there is no record in previous submissions or the Gradebook History. For us this means that if a student is recorded as unsatisfactory for a performance task and then recorded as satisfactory the evidence of the first selection has disappeared. We have a work around however one assignment per task would be great. If a teacher uses annotated comments on a submission and the student resubmits they (the student) cannot view the annotations from the first submission. This requires the teacher to download the annotated document and attach it to the assignment comments.

Hi all, Just to add to this, we are experiencing difficulties with the students' Learning Mastery view, apparently a legacy of the Post and Hide issues we have experienced. This has been escalated with Canvas Support. The teachers Learning Mastery view is not lining up with what the students see. These Assignments are not graded so using the Post and or Hide grades feature is not an option. Just something else to be aware of, Marita

To be honest we too have never had so much confusion regarding an update. Many of our teachers were avid users of the mute and unmute function and it worked well. While I understand you may not be able to go back the icons are confusing and have caused significant problems for our staff. I do not see how the new 'fix' will assist. I believe it would be far more simple for a teacher to select a grading policy at the course level that allows them to choose between: hiding the grades for the whole course by default (requiring manual posting when required) for each Assignment (again requiring them to post manually) not hiding at all (automatically posting) This could all be managed from Gradebook only however the icon could be seen from the Speedgrader so they are aware at the time of marking. The icons are very confusing, my very simplified take is that wth the new updates we will have one icon that means two different things and on any level that is not ok.
