Allowing admins to set a default course navigation would be hugely helpful. Like someone else who commented here, we though blueprint courses would be the answer but they aren't granular enough. We don't want the template to override the course start/end dates entered through our SIS import, but there seems no way around this. What we really want is to standardize our newly created courses so the home page is set to Syllabus and simplifies the navigation. If Admins could set some of these course defaults, that would be immensely helpful.

With the changes for adding granularity to enrollment permissions, I'm looking at our Beta instance and I can't get this to work. On our Production site, Teachers cannot enroll users at all. What I'm hoping is that I'll be able to let them enroll anything BUT a Teacher or a Student. However, our Beta site seems stuck and won't allow any enrollment no matter what I do. I finally turned on all the user enrollment permissions for teachers (see screenshot).
And yet, even now when I "act as" a teacher in a course, there is no +PEOPLE button present at all from the People page in the course. Nothing I do seems to change this. When I stop acting as the teacher and return to my Admin role, the +PEOPLE appears. I'm at a loss as to how to fix this. Is it a bug, or am I missing another permission somewhere?

It's been a few years since this problem was posted so I wondered if anyone out there had a solution yet? We also need to keep an archive of syllabi files and would like to pull them from Canvas for this purpose rather than making instructors have to post their syllabus twice. I see the public facing form from Stanford linked in the post above, but it's the finished website and not something I can use. I thought someone had created a tool for this purpose that they shared with others to make this work. Now that I need it though, I can't find any record of where I read that. Our Canvas CSM said they didn't know of anything and suggested I ask here to see if someone knew of a solution.

We have seen several instances of this error with no solution presented by Canvas Support that actually helped. Mostly the recommendation has been to delete cookies, but that hasn't fixed the problem. We did have success with one case by upgrading the Mac OS from El Capitan (10.11.6) to Mojave (10.14.6), despite the minimum requirements listing support for Mac OS version 10.6 or higher.

I don't understand why Instructure is changing course on this issue. As it stands now, we have to manually enroll every Teaching Assistant and Student Instructor into every course because we can't take the chance that our teachers will not enroll these users with the wrong role. We need every "student" and "teacher" to be enrolled by our Registrar because these roles filter into EvaluationKit for course evaluations. Designing granular permissions of this kind is not an unreasonable request for an LMS. Please reconsider putting this back on the road map for 2019, especially as we were originally informed this update would be part of a 2-tier permissions restructuring project completed this summer.

Whenever a dropdown for term is presented, the sort order should be newest-to-oldest. That just makes sense.

Sorting terms in descending order so that the most active terms are listed first should be the default. I think I found this feature idea at https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/1248-more-intuitive-term-sortingpresentation. Feel free to vote this idea up.

Hi Steve, Our college is currently exploring a partnership with an institution in China as well, and I'm wondering when you say you've given up on anything interactive if that includes discussions? And you mentioned timed quizzes, but what if they are not timed? How are you able to assess learning under these circumstances? I really appreciate all the information you and everyone here have shared already. It has given us a lot of insight into this venture. Donna

We have opted to hide the syllabus tool for numerous reasons, one being that it adds assignments automatically. We want to publish courses ahead of their start date so students can preview the syllabus, but the assignment list with this tool is often incomplete or inaccurate if the course isn't completely built out yet. Having the option to hide all or some assignments from the syllabus area would go a long way toward us using it again.

Please move this idea up on the production schedule! We are using EvaluationKit through Canvas and can no longer allow teachers to enroll other teachers or students. Allowing this causes guests to either be evaluated, or to receive course evaluation invitations. We want teachers to use other roles instead, but turning off these 2 permissions turns off their ability to enroll anyone. They can't even enroll users as observers (which isn't mentioned in the permissions) or into custom-made roles. This is a real problem.
