Yes, this feature is still in need of significant improvement. Get rid of the requirement to hold in the stylus button, and move the 'accept/delete' pop up box that obscures the writing surface. Hello! Wow, the annotations now work! I only tried Chrome with a Surface 5th gen and the MS pen. It was easy to pencil in comments on a document submitted by a student. This will make grading so much easier/faster! One does have to push the stylus button to draw on the page, and this is a bit awkward. Be mindful to scroll with a finger on the side of the document to avoid a fingerprint streak of ink. Using fingers to zoom also caused streaks of ink. IE was not as good, with lots of pen lag. If there was room for improvement other than having to hold the pen button, it would be the placement of the little checkmark/trashcan icon. Hello, I appreciate that Canvas is pursuing a solution to this problem, but things appear to be worse, not better. I used to be able to clumsily draw a few letters or numbers in speedgrader with a pen on my Surface tablet, but now it's more like using an Etch a Sketch after a couple of beers. I tried Chrome and Firefox, Win 10, 5th gen Surface with the stock Surface pen for that model.   ... View more

Laurie, I've tried Bamboo, HP, and MS pens on HP, MS, Lenovo, and Samsung laptops running several internet browsers and no combination worked well. Some combos were worse than others, but nothing was any where near usable. There are multiple problems with the current system that I mentioned in a previous post. I don't even bother any more, but I have another  class starting next week and I would be very grateful if Canvas has this issue resolved. ... View more

If this feature is implemented, please make it compatible with Windows tablets like the Surface Pro. Currently, writing on pdfs is not supported and it's next to impossible to mark up graded work with a Surface and stylus. Thank you! Today's response from Canvas is that one should use the Canvas Teacher App to use a stylus for marking up student work in Speedgrader. The only catch is that you need an iOS or Android device, and Windows is not supported unless we rig an election to get a lot of votes. I'm not sure why there aren't 1000 votes for this already. Update: This has been made much more functional.  So, I can annotate pdf documents that students upload into Speedgrader, but the functionality is horrible. Here is a video about how hard it is to annotate files in Speedgrader.   https://youtu.be/sU2TquEXEpA   There are two issues: The ink on the screen is ¼ inch below the tip of the stylus. This does not happen on any other application on my tablet. It’s frustrating to connect letters or numbers or to ink specific items on the screen. The other issue is the little pop up box for accepting or deleting work. It shows up right where the pen will go for the next letter if writing left to right. The little box needs to be more to the left of the most recent character or in some other place. I was told by Canvas support that it must be the driver on my tablet causing the problem. If two different brands of tablets with different pens have the same problem, this is a Canvas issue.   The video was done on a 2017 MS Surface (5) with a new Surface pen, but the same problems existed on a different brand of tablet (HP) with a different stylus (Bamboo). I’ve tried every browser (IE, Edge, Chrome, Firefox). Firefox is the worst, with IE being better than the others.   Does anyone else have this problem? Thank you, Greg ... View more
