Does anyone know how to create an announcement for only new users in Canvas? We want to create an informational announcement for any user that logs into Canvas for the first time.

Hi! Thank you so much for the reply. I have added a screen shot to show what we are trying to hide/disable. I used this JS in the theme to hide it from the menu but it still appears as an enabled item in the navigation menu items. $(document).ready(function(){ $('a.people').hide(); });

Hi! I was able to disable using this JS code added to the theme. However, the item still appears in the course navigation tab as enabled. I attached a screen shot of an example. Is there a way to disable/hide there as well? $(document).ready(function(){ $('a.syllabus').hide(); });

Hi everyone, I have been searching for days to find a solution to disable an internal tool provided by default in Canvas. In this instance I am trying to get rid of "Syllabus". I found another post that contained this JavaScript code (which worked) to hide it from the course menu but it still appears under the course Navigation and in some cases is still enabled. $(document).ready(function(){ $('a.syllabus').hide(); }); I know that it cannot be manipulated like external LTI tools so I am at a loss as to how to disable at the account level.

Hi! We were able to use this to hide the link from the course menu, however, it still appears in the course Navigation and in some cases says it is still enabled. Are there additional steps to either remove or disable from there? Thank you!

Hi @dmack Sorry for the delay! I didn't receive a notification that you had replied to my post. I had created a Formstack form that captures the student's name, date, journal number (free form field), and a predefined drop down list of the areas they needed to record field hours. This populates a Google Sheet tied to our Formstack account. The first tab on the sheet captures the data inputted into the form and the second tab is a graph that can be used to easily determine how much was logged per activity. Hope this helps!

@matthew_buckett Amazing! I was able to turn it off in our test environment using Postman. I cannot thank you enough for getting me there! For those of you who stumble upon this page. You only have the run this once to turn it off for all current and future courses. One catch, any course that has it on will have it turned off after this command has run.

I do have one additional question. Once I have the information and my curl command formatted, where do I add this information to our Canvas instance?

We are looking into adding Microsoft Teams classes to our environment. By default and not configurable this adds itself to EVERY singe course in Canvas. I believe I can use XML to make this disabled in each course menu navigation which would them require teachers to enable it if they wanted to use it. I found this XML tool that could be used to do this for us: https://www.edu-apps.org/build_xml.html However, I am unsure how to find the LTI Launch URL? Would anyone be able to lend some assistance here?

@lars_vemund_sol would you be able to provide a bit more detail about how you were to accomplish this? We have an app that is presenting itself in the same way and we would prefer it be an option that is enabled by course.

Hi! I am have been searching for a few days now but have been unable to find a method of exporting a list of course or account roles and there assigned permissions. I have been tasked with analyzing this data to make sure users have the correct access. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi everyone! For anyone that lands on this page I hope you find what we did helpful. We currently use Formstack. I created a Formstack form for students to submit hours. I embedded this in the assignment as well. The form is linked to a Google sheet that the instructor has access to and can view live data. The 2nd tab of that sheet has a chart for quickly viewing the progress of each student.

Hi everyone! I hope this isn't a dead topic! We have a use case for something like this as well. We have a program where the instructor needs the students to self track time spent on an activity outside of class and write a journal regarding the activity. All activity time to tally at the end of the class for the instructor to review and compare to class guidelines.

It would be great if the Dashboard on Canvas Website had multiple rows and columns to organize our class blocks in any specific order we desire. I would prefer, in my case for example, to have all the Command Line Shell classes in one single row, and then all my Security+ classes in another different row (line), and so on. What I can only do is to shuffle them up, but not organize them because they all are in a continuous line. So, if there were columns and rows to re-arrange them, it would be beneficial for a lot of us that have many classes per semester.
