Comment Library Sharing with TA Hi, I have a TA in my class and it appears if I put in Library Comments they do not seem to transfer over to them. Is there a way to do this without copying and pasting them again? Best, Brent |

This is a must! When we have classes that continue to grow with TAs/graders as instructors we need to be able to create comments and share them with them easily. This is a no brainer!

Hi Chris, Thanks i did see that and i was hoping to draw some attention to this situation as it is another way Canvas is just not user friendly at times. Most of the time it is, but in this instance and not being able to move a rubric row easy just makes things frustrating. Brent

Follow up question...I am successful at creating tabbed assignments. I want to add a File upload, which I can do without Tabs by hitting +, Drop Down File, Choose File. Is there a way to have this be part of a TAB Set Up? Thank you!

Is there anyway to change this from Canvas? It is inconvenient when a student makes a mistake and turns something in by accident and now I have to grade all of the papers multiple times.

This has probably been stated somewhere here, there is a work around. I am sure it is out there in more detail too, but maybe this will help. Step 1: Create your discussion board using the discussion assignment type. Create your rubric as you will be grading everything here. Step 2: I add an explanation of how to complete the Peer Participation part. Part 2: Come back to this Discussion Forum or use the Reply Assignment Forum Link in the Introduction Replies Item back to this forum to reply to at least four (4) of your fellow classmate's initial postings with substantive responses by 11:59:00 PM AZ time on the due date indicated in the Syllabus and the Canvas Calendar. (4-points each=16-points) See grading rubric by clicking on the snowman (the three little vertical dots) in the upper Step 3: Create an Assignment and add have it worth ZERO points, this is a place holder so the due date appears. I provide a picture of the Peer Participation part of the Discussion Evaluation which one finds in the Original Discussion Assignment and the following information with a hyperlink back to the Original Discussion' Now let's respond to at least 4 of your fellow classmates' initial postings, with substantive responses by 11:59:00PM AZ time on the due date indicated in the Syllabus and the Canvas Calendar. ***Click Here to Reply in the Original Discussion Board*** Here is a Loom of it too in case it is easier to follow: Loom | Free Screen & Video Recording Software The other option is to use a third party application like Harmonize (I have previewed it, but there is no indication my Uni is going to purchase it. It does however, create multiple due dates and a PinInterest Look, which will be appealing to some learners. I hope this helps, while Canvas figures things out. Be safe and well, Brent

As we all shifted to online, this is something that is really necessary. I feel as an instructor I should be able to delete a submission at the minimum to support students and to fix incorrect data uploads or wrong places. There is no reason for Canvas to dictate they want all submissions saved. IF that is the case and they will not budge, then create a clear assignment option, so faculty can clear it out and it "appears" deleted at least. We are in M2 and student updated in a follow up assignment in M6. Now if I give no points the entire grade is skewed and since it is a live link to an E-Portfolio, I won't know when I should evaluate. Also, unless I fake grade it, it will show up in my to do list, which I do not want to see stuff in. Canvas stop creating new stuff and fix the old stuff we have been asking for. If not then shut your community requests down since often times you don't listen.

When I want to create a quick message for a student as a hello or feedback, regardless of the area of Canvas I am in, when I create it and post it and move on to the next student to provide their individualized video, it does not allow me the opportunity to record it, without leaving the area and coming back to it. This requires two reloadings of information out of the area and back into it, and then finding where I left off again. This may not be a lot of time for a few recordings, but when there are a hundred of them, that time adds up and takes away from time I could be interacting with my students. Please correct this flaw in Canvas. Thank you, Brent

Having the ability to caption and create an inclusive environment is something that should have been done from the beginning from an ADA standpoint. The third party application is not approved by my University, so all of my videos need to be captioned and uploaded somewhere else. This makes my off the cuff quick comments to students, so they feel noticed a challenge to do for students who need extra support. This by the way could be any student since some may be doing their work in a quiet place and being able to read the message via captions would be a good option.

I am upvoting this and for the other one too. However, it is not just for missing it is also for LATE settings. For example, I use an external tool, which I can choose when to have the grades released. I do this so I can spot check responses and make changes, before the students see their grades. When the grades import, which of course is AFTER the due date in Canvas, they are all marked LATE and the late policy I have selected is applied. I have to go in manually and click the NONE choice for each student. That is three clicks per student x 100+. It was not fun. If this can be added as a friendly amendment, to have the choice to not mark as LATE when importing from an external app, I would appreciate it. Brent

Hi Joseph, Thank you for reviewing this. I am happy to provide more details. We have integrated Perusall into Canvas. The due date passes and when I indicate to Perusall to release grades and import to Canvas, when they hit Canvas, they are marked late. This is because I have a due date in Canvas that has passed. If I do not use the auto-late policy, it really just turns the cells blue. After a few notifications about this, students stop worrying that it is marked late because no points were deducted. If I do use the auto-late policy, such as 10% grade reduction every day, then when I have the grades pushed, it might be called LTI 1.1 (but I am not a tech person, I am just copying what someone else wrote me) it turns the cell blue, marks it late, and then deducts points. If I do an upload of a .CSV after the due date, I have not experienced them being marked late. In either case if I am hiding the grades, to avoid a panic, it still shows late to the student until I go in manually to change it from late to none or missing. I hope that helps and if you have a solution that would be great. Brent

I am not a fan of the new grading policy that Canvas thought would be great to implement. It is more complicated and confusing and has caused more issues than it is worth. Besides the fact when we import grades from an outside entity Canvas marks EVERYTHING LATE, when I decided to get in front of it with the students this week, I changed the grades to manual, so they would not see anything until I could correct all 108 x 2 assignments manually to not be late. (How about a feature to not mark things late for everyone?). I digress... Well, they could not see their grades, but they were still marked late and I got a barrage of emails of student yelling their work was not late. Attached is a screen shot a student nicely offered up for me to share. There is the eyeball but all they see is the RED LATE. If we are going to hide the grading, then 100% of it should be hidden. Please correct this and the import process for grades from outside the forum. Frustrated with Canvas, Brent

I have an idea! If this was close to being worked on for Q4 2019, let's all rally our institutions and get others to vote for it too. I sent it on our instructional designers and they are going to look into seeing what can be done. I will at least let me peers know to...We need to pass the word on as many do not like the stripped down emails, but maybe they don't know what they can do about it. Here's to the Announcement Formatting Revolution! Brent

This is going to be very beneficial, since for whatever reason this Fall I have more questions asking if they can resubmit after feedback to earn more points, because the button is so large and at the top of the page. I also had someone submit something that did not belong and the clean up of it, since it was a team assignment, now marked late, took multiple steps. It would be helpful to be able to delete an assignment too, I mean I don't think that is something Canvas Police need to do for us, they have better things to do, like add a second due date to discussion posts and make discussion responses easier to read by collapsing threads. Cheers!

I think it has been well said that this is something that needs to be done, while other things which I have seen no talk about get done. For example, how we mute assignments has been updated from a simple Mute Assignment, then Unmute Assignment to a choice to hide grades, with detailed information, which then leads to the ability to show the grades for students who have been graded, except a student who was given an extension his grade was just shown to him without me needing to unhide the grade. Meanwhile, one can also use this new Grade Posting Policy which can be all of the time students can see them, or at some set time we can decide. Are you confused yet, because I know I am and so are my course designers. This was a simple process made difficult for no reason, while a TOOL that every single teacher and student wants goes, basically ignored as unimportant. Canvas was supposed to be the end all be all of LMSs and something that one would expect from a progressive application like Canvas to be done just is not. I have to say, Canvas is just another big old organizational machine, and just another learning management system. It is no better than Blackboard in the sense that they each have their quirks, and somethings work better than others in each of them (don't get me started about how there are no threaded discussions, just one big BLOB, that is having me move away from threaded discussion posts). I am actually disappointed in Canvas as thought it was better by reputation than it is, in actual.

As an instructor who teaching 10-12 courses a year, with development shells, and archive shells, in my first 6 months using it, the calendar is overcrowded. Would love to be able to not have them listed on the right, even if they are not appearing on my calendar. #hateclutter

This is another area that I shake my head at Canvas, which is "supposed" to be superior in terms of its friendliness. My university is new to Canvas, and our students are blaming us for bad announcements since they do not make sense when they are stripped down. We spend a long time creating announcements which will engage our students, one of the reasons we moved to Canvas, and then it gets taken away. This has got to be fixed. Regarding the comment from someone about their team being overworked to work on this...hire more people! Very Truly Yours, Brent P.S. It was also strange that I could upload my video directly to the announcement, but when I uploaded it to the course files, I could not link it to the announcement. #notuserfriendly

Thank you again Elson, First, I have no idea what BLueprint is, I just have a course which I call Master of the course I am teaching, so if others need it I can easily share it without my name in it. It is also good for courses where I collaborate with other profs and we keep a Master shell for that. What I would be doing is copying Master Shell Course 1 to Spring A Course 1; then Spring B Course 1. What I will need to do is go into the discussion narratives non-graded assignment and update the link in the Spring A and Spring B Course 1, to match that course, otherwise it will take the students back to the Master Course Shell Course 1 discussion. Is that correct? The language is specific I just wanted to say it one more time to make sure we are all on the same path. Brent
