Bio:
I believe in the power of learning. Although I have had countless people tell me that they could never learn to draw because they are not creative, my 20 years of experience teaching beginning art classes tells me it is absolutely not true. Anyone can learn to draw or paint if they really want to. If one is willing to invest the time, patience and hard-work, they will learn.
It took me years to learn. After I earned my BA in art and theatre I spent 10 years working as a scenic artist in Seattle at ACT, Seattle Repertory Theatre, the Opera and others. Working with other artists made me aware of how much I didn’t know so I took classes at what is now the Gage Academy. I was completely humbled my first day, but I was inspired as well because my goals became clear.
When I was ready, I left Seattle for graduate school in California and then moved to Savannah for a full-time teaching position at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I have always wanted to move back to the Northwest and now that I am here, I am thrilled to be teaching painting at South.
