I would like to request the ability to add categories to organize and group criteria in a rubric. This would help the instructor when evaluating a submission, but it would also help the student to understand what each line contributes to at a glance. In my mind, this would look similar to what is found in Assignment groups where you can group items and view subtotals for each group.

I just got off the phone with Support, they mentioned that I should have this button. I am not sure if that was a slip, or if that is a note of things to come. Please Canvas, I beg of you, give us (admins) this one thing.

This https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-15537-conversations-api-able-to-create-messages-with-a-new-subject may help quite a bit. I can try to put something together in Python as an example but it probably won't be until later this week, but it isn't going to be of much use at scale. I don't have anything running currently that uses these endpoints. Where are you getting the CSV from? Will it include Canvas User IDs? Are you intending on using a generic API user hard coded in or using AUTH for each user making calls? What language are you planning on doing this in? Happy to help where I can, but let me know if you have any specific questions. I will hop back on here as I have time. -Michael

@dli1 awilliams Here https://community.canvaslms.com/thread/7433 is something that may be of use, you don't need to edit the root CSS/JS as everything is already included in the base elements on Canvas. I didn't write the original example above, but I have been using this approach for a while and why rewrite a guide that has more information than what I would include. Let me know if this was helpful, or if you have any other questions. Thank you, Michael

This is probably the best idea I have come across on the community, the lack of touch support here is borderline laughable. If you can't get it done in the browser (I get it, OneNote is quite bad in the browser) there are other options, make a Windows app for speedgrader if nothing else, the "open in speedgrader" button could open in the desktop app even. I don't think you need Mac support as even Apple doesn't really support touch very well on MacOS, and from what I have seen those users don't want it/wouldn't use those devices for it. They either have a Surface and download everything and work in OneNote or Acrobat or they grade from an iPad. I don't think that leaving it how it exists is an option at this point, speedgrader works beautifully, but without pen support I am having quite a few faculty move off platform for much of their grading and that is a step in the wrong direction. Please Canvas, I beg of you. Let's make this a selling point for users to employ Canvas as more than just a gradebook. When I have users that would rather print everything out, grade, scan and upload every assignment 60+ times there is a problem. -Michael

Other than building out an extension that would automate the process I think the easiest way would be to have a CSV import for every day that you have a sub. You could build one for the morning that would give the accounts the subs are using access to the courses they need and one for the evening that would remove the access when the regular instructor is back. Yes someone would have to put together the CSV file to import and manage the file itself, but if you have a regular set of subs/courses needing subs or a large number of courses the upfront time investment could pay off very quickly. Below is the Canvas documentation on the subject along with an example: SIS Import Format Documentation - Canvas LMS REST API Documentation AM: course_id,user_id,role,section_id,status 123456,sub_teacher1,teacher,1B,active 234567,sub_teacher2,teacher,2A,active 345678,sub_teacher3,teacher,2A,active PM: course_id,user_id,role,section_id,status 123456,sub_teacher1,teacher,1B,deleted 234567,sub_teacher2,teacher,2A,deleted 345678,sub_teacher3,teacher,2A,deleted If you know the courses and teachers (or the accounts they will be using to login) these assignments could be done very quickly from day to day with some planning. And that way you don't have a shared Admin profile at your account level. Let me know if you have any questions. -Michael

Hello, I have not done this as you describe, but I don't know why it would be out of the question with enough work. If you have a method of exposing data from your LTI to the client side in some way you could add some JS to add an element to that line item. Maybe use custom data? Users - Canvas LMS REST API Documentation Would it be neat to have? yep. Would it be way more work than one would expect? Also, likely, yep. It is a good idea, but I think your time would be better served putting something together to send a message or an email for notifications. Conversations - Canvas LMS REST API Documentation Canvas gives users/institutions quite a bit of control, but the onus is on you for maintenance so I am always hesitant to make broad changes to the actual functions of Canvas with JS, unless you have someone/a team that just builds/maintains your custom integrations to do upkeep and check patches I probably wouldn't recommend this route. Hopefully this helps. Thank you, Michael
