Blueprint Sync after the course ends Hi, I'm wondering what happens to associated courses after the course ends. For example, I have changes to the Blueprint I would like to make to rubrics, but changing this and syncing would affect gr... |

I wholeheartedly agree with this. Attendance is used for so many purposes, most notably for intervention purposes. Because of the lack of functionality Canvas provides, we have spent numerous hours on workarounds to get where we want to be. It definitely would be nice if this were a priority for Canvas.

Add attendance to be taken more than once in a day. Have notifications sent went attendance drops below certain percentages.

I would also be in favor of this option. In general, it would be great if there was no need to manually manipulate the gradebook to find potentially hidden muted assignments and have that word shown by default or also designated by a color.

Hello. How would one get Late grading Instructor and admin only: Late assignment submission I don't see these options in the Canvas data portal. We are trying to get a report of late submissions. Or at least of submission due date and student submission time. The provisioning report in Canvas data shows submission date and graded date, but not when the assignment was due. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Reinvigorating this with some information: I would avoid deleting a user completely unless they completely stop going to school. When a user is 'deleted' it will delete the login tied to the sis_id. If the login is the last one, all of the users enrollments will also be deleted and they won't be able to log in to the school's account. There are two options to stop a student from either participating in courses, but still can log in (the first option), or not allow them to see at all 1) users.csv file: If you still want the student to be able to log in but just not participate, leave the student 'active' but set the enrollments to 'completed' (For users.csv) 2) enrollments.csv We can set their status as "inactive"."If in an 'inactive' state, the student will be listed in the course roster for teachers, but will not be able to view or participate in the course until the enrollment is activated." (for enrollments.csv). Here are the steps to successfully restore a deleted student. 1. Go to Account level >> Settings>> Reports 2. Find "provisioning" and download a users.csv file 3. In that csv file, C+FIND the SIS ID for the student. 4. Copy row entire for that user and then copy into new csv file. This will be the second row, the first row will be the proper names of the columns **5. Canvas_user_id number is important to have in this new csv file because it allows the system to know we are restoring the user. Without this information, the system thinks you’re adding a new user. This is the problem you are having. 6. You do not need the column “created by SIS ID”; you can delete that entire column. 7. Save file and add to Canvas.

I wanted to add another current pitfall, or perhaps it might be a bug as of Jan 13, 2018. Blueprint syncs will not update the rubric associated to an assignment after a rubric copy is created. Canvas is working with their engineering team to address this. As a temporary work around for this issue — making any small additional change to an affected assignment and re-syncing will correctly update the assignment's rubric in the associated courses. Also, if you had created course-level outcomes in a course, and then replaced those in the Blueprints with account-level outcomes, modified every single rubric with the new outcomes and then completely deleted the old outcomes, in the child courses, all outcomes will be present, even the old outcomes that are not attached to any rubric. The only way to delete is to manually do this in every course associated with the Blueprint (time consuming), or via the API, however, I have no idea how to do this. Anyone know or can share? Thanks!

I completely agree. I think rubrics need to be separate from outcomes. Outcomes do not function like rubric criterion and should not fall to the same requirements as them. I think the outcomes could be at the top of the assignment, or listed in a different location than the rubric even. This also would serve to eliminate the problem that when you unclick "use criterion for scoring" and then use free form comments on the rubric, the outcome you have added it useless. In this case, all you can add are comments to the outcome, but then in Learning Mastery, the student sees nothing but an ungraded outcome rubric. Not only is this unintuitive, it's confusing for the instructors and students. I hope this idea gains traction!

Any advice to someone who is a non-programmer on how to do this? Much appreciated. This has my vote. Currently, outcomes are really on the back burner for students and they have to dig to see a lot of information or only have it in one place. Same for instructors. I think visibility to outcomes needs to improve on all accounts.

My institution would benefit greatly. It's so much more convenient for instructors to house sections within the same course, but then it gets tricky when the sections start going down different paths.

My institution would also like this for assessment content that one section will take earlier than another but we don't want the other section to see.

I have actually already found the answer from the sis import documentation which is accessible at the account level in the sis imports tab. Because blueprint ids are not considered “sticky”, anything in the sis import will override UI changes. I do have another question if you don’t mind. SIS imports are not supposed to override UI changes unless a specific element is selected to do so. I dissociated courses from a Blueprint manually from the blueprint, but didn’t remove them from the SIS import. When I uploaded the SIS import, it reassociated the courses. I would have imagined this wouldn’t happen since I made a UI change. Have you experienced this as well? Thank you in advance. I've implemented a very similar system. However, we do allow associations to stay for 1 month past the course start date and we allow very well-documented changes to Blueprints, but the changes can only be for what is upcoming to be taught and nothing currently or what has been taught can be changed. Then, the courses are disassociated. We've just started with Blueprints and Canvas this September. I imagine after a year I would prefer to switch to disassociating the course before the beginning of the trimester to prevent accidents. Thank you for your comments.

HiChristin Deville, thank you for this important piece of information. Did you figure this out on your own or did Canvas inform you? How do you feel about this "However, you might not expect that all 100 previously associated courses in BLUEPRINT_A will also get a content sync at the same time. So if your instructional designers have been "cleaning up" or re-arranging in one of those previously associated courses, they may be surprised to notice that the blueprint has pushed out content to their courses again. One other quirk: the sync to the new course includes settings and content from the Blueprint. However, previously associated courses will only get a content sync from this sync trigger." It doesn't seem like a quirk, but an unwanted behavior. The idea with the various "master" copies is a critical idea.
