Hi Naomi, I understand the tool is designed to sync the settings automatically the first time then subsequent times you can choose not to include the course settings, but if I wind up syncing late and we have super faculty that start designing their course as soon as it shows up, then we knock out their course settings with that of the blueprint. We were thinking, maybe we should try a template for settings so that it happens upon creation then a blueprint just for the module that has locked content, but due to the inability to sync the blueprint without the settings the first time, we are left in the same position with either tool. I guess this has turned into a feature request. Thanks, Juliet

@erinhmcmillan So that means that the SIS term will be replaced with the default term. So, a best practice is to update the template semester by semester ensuring the correct term is selected? @Hildi_Pardo We have the same issue at our institution. Faculty were taught that using the copy feature to import all content from one semester to another is the way to go. We came up with a checklist to try to circumvent this behavior and we are thinking of having a spring training that is like, forget what you know about getting your course ready for next semester and do something new... or like, Canvas changed a lot of stuff, so now we have to change what we do! (trying to think of how to phrase this for the most positive affect). Refresh What you Think you Know About Setting up Your Course... (that sounds weird). Anyone have suggestions? LOL.

As a community college district, we use outcomes for General Education Student Learning Assessment for our accreditation. It is necessary for our admins to be able to run the Outcome Results report to gather that data from our subaccounts. We hope that this feature is available by May of 2022.

I will tell you that I am super frustrated by the fact that we cannot run an admin report any longer to gather our outcome results from New Quizzes. If this is not fixed, we will not be able to have instructors align account level outcomes to the quiz questions for institutional level general education student learning outcome assessment which is a requirement for HLC. The old quizzes allowed our chemistry faculty to quickly align outcomes with Question Banks and I feel like the scoring was great using the decaying average.

@rexj Actually, it's an account report. I pulled it at my college's account level. Here is a snapshot of the resulting file: The first column contains the id for who submitted, the second which course it was in, third the Canvas course id, then the quiz ID shows actually which quiz it was. There are some duplicates, but if you filter those out you are left with the number of courses that used quizzes over a time period and THEN using another report you can attach instructor information to the course ID. So you do get one massive report on all quizzes used per semester - or you can choose not to set a term and get all quiz submissions ever completed in your account. Here is the Canvas guide How do I view reports for an account? Weirdly, I do not see this report in the Canvas Default Account Reports PDF Maybe check with your Canvas rep to see if it is available.

@SuSorensen , when will the interface no longer be an "External Tool" we want to start training but I am worried that the interface will change right after I train faculty one way. Thanks for your help!

@rexj I found a workaround with the Course Quiz Export report. It gives the last date of quiz submission. There are duplicate quiz IDs so I used a Pivot table to get the unique Quiz IDs. We have 333 used in Spring of 2021. The course SIS ID is listed too, so if I work with other reports we have access to, I could compile a faculty listing and course listing of those who use Canvas classic quizzes, but that seems like a bunch of work for little payoff. Now that I think more, I guess targeted emails with details about specifics for that group of users is a good idea... so like maybe take all the reports from Fall 2020 - Spring 2022, get the instructor information for them, create an email list, and really pound them with communication about the migration/switch over while keeping the rest of faculty aware, but not so many emails... hmmm good things to think about. What are you thinking about doing?

Hi there! I did a quick Google search and it looks like you can get the feed link from your Canvas calendar and feed it to your Google calendar. Calendar feed from Canvas calendar Click on the link for Calendar Feed on the right under your calendar list from a browser then copy/paste that link that pops up. Then from the settings in your Google calendar, go to add a calendar from a URL and paste that link. NOTE: I have not tried this but now I am going to! Good idea! HTH - Jules

I am assuming there is not a direct way to see when an assignment was edited, like in pages, but I wanted to ask if there was a secret place like the "undelete" page. Sometimes, like today, I have an instructor that swears they didn't change an assignment and it would be lovely to be able to tell them when the change occurred. I can put this in suggestions if there is nothing now. Any help is appreciated!

We use a blueprint, we have a "Get to know your Canvas course" page in a module for faculty. Modules are, by default set to Modules in our blueprint. From what I understand, us changing content in the page that is in the module and syncing should just update the page, that is the only thing that changed. I did not select to include course settings. Instead, all instructors home pages were reset to modules after I synced today. 😫 Most of our faculty just roll with the punches but a few will undoubtedly will, and have, complained. Any way to prevent this from happening? We wanted to be able to update that page throughout the semester if needed but that seems like that will not work. Thank you for your help.

Hi Rolf, At our college, with our faculty, this would be a case of teaching the faculty to use email filters. This is the most unpopular answer of course, because faculty do not want to have to do something extra. I can see it from the other point of view, what if you have the teacher and examiner that are supervising the course and they did not receive the announcements from one of the examiners and there was a problem with it? Then they would be the ones complaining. To me this is an inconvenience for a few, but the larger whole likely benefit from it. Also, to create a checkbox of who to notify on posting would be nice, but it is probably super low on the list of things for Canvas to do better with the UI since it is one of those things that it would be better for faculty and does not really affect the students. Sorry for the bummer answer but I was sad that no one had commented in the whole month! Juliet

I like the idea of a warning, personally. However, once it is out of Beta and not an external tool, I doubt this will even be an issue. The problem lies in the education of the user. We put New Quizzes out there without really understanding that it is currently an external tool (LTI). It does not seem like one because it is an option of Quizzes, but once we start using it and running into these issues, the understanding that it is an external tool became crucial. So, my suggestion is to the user and to the admins. When using New Quizzes be aware that this is a separate tool from Assignments and Quizzes. As such, you should treat it that way. 1. Update point values after completing the editing of your New Quiz within the Assignment settings. 2. If you want to import this type of quiz from another course it is found in Assignments, not quizzes.

@careysmith Sounds like you could use question banks and randomize which question the quiz picks. You have 25 PDFs, one per question, and then say that it pulls one question from that bank of 25 questions. It is not ensuring that every student gets a different one, but it could be!

We would like the missing submission policy to apply to quizzes as well. We have instructors that want 0s to be applied past the due date instead of having to manually input 0s.

Yes! This is needed for sure. Math instructors at our institution have students upload PDFs of their work and answers to Quiz questions with File Upload type. They then grade them with feedback and ideally re-upload the results. Bulk would be great for this!
