Bio:
FYI: This is a long one...! I graduated a long time ago but here is a snapshot of my story. Originally from New York, New York, I attended University of Rhode Island, College of Nursing & was accepted as a Navy Nurse Corps Candidate, was commissioned as an Ensign & graduated June 1970 with a BSN. My first duty station was at St. Albans Naval Hospital, Queens, New York where I worked in orthopedics & general medicine. My next duty station was at the dispensary, Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan doing general medicine & some labor & delivery duty. I was then stationed at San Diego Naval Hospital working in the Medical ICU, Coronary Care Unit & was the charge nurse of the coronary step-down unit. Selected for the Nurse Anesthesia program, I attended George Washington University & completed my 2nd BS & CRNA. Stationed at Long Beach Naval Hospital, I switched to education after nearly 2 years & found it to be a lot more fun! I completed my MS in Education at Pepperdine and my next duty station was at the Naval School of Health Sciences, San Diego, training Naval Hospital Corpsmen patient care. Selected for a 2nd Masters in Education at San Diego State University, I was stationed at Great Lakes Hospital Corps School after graduation, training more Hospital Corpsmen. I began my Ed.D. in Adult & Continuing Education at Northern Illinois University before retiring as a Commander from the Navy. I became the Director of Health Services at the College of Lake County & retired from that position in 2007 & moved to the Gettysburg, PA area & worked at Gettysburg Hospital, graduated form the University of Wyoming with my MSN & then became a faculty member at Penn State's Mont Alto campus. I was the Coordinator of the Nursing Lab for 2 years & then switched to lecture, etc. duties 5 years ago. I am really excited to assist you in your quest for the BSN! One of my dearest Navy colleagues many years ago joined the Navy with a hospital diploma RN but after the Navy sent him for his BSN, he immediately enrolled & completed his MSN - the advancement in his education was inspiring & I hope it is for you as well!
