I agree. There should be an easier way to change the embedded document's height and width in the HTML Editor.... Has someone already suggested this as an idea to improve canvas? I tried just adding a width and heigh command to the auto-in-line-preview syntax, but it didn't work... <p><a class="instructure_file_link instructure_scribd_file auto_open" title="Nine Things You Should Already Know About Plagiarism.pdf" href="https://canvas.ou.edu/courses/94623/files/7349853/download" data-api-endpoint="https://canvas.ou.edu/api/v1/courses/94623/files/7349853" data-api-returntype="File">Nine Things You Should Already Know About Plagiarism.pdf</a></p> width="100" height="400"

But also, when you're using speedgrader's "Grade by question (beta) function" it should know that Q1 is obviously different across students and direct me to the spot in the next student's quiz, where they saw that question... not to whatever version their q1 was. I have my questions (Short Answers) shuffled, so when I click next student it just shows me which ever SA question they got first, instead of the one I was grading for the previous student.... This is very annoying... and should be an easy fix, since the computer knows which question is which.

Agreed, please make this change ASAP. From the quiz statistics page, it lists who responded to the open-answer questions and how many scored in the top 27%, middle xx%, etc. It should also just list what their exact responses were. This will also help with impartiality during grading. As a work-around, I tried using the "grade by question (beta) function" feature and "hide student's name" in the speed grader, but it is not the same; it is still very cumbersome and inefficient. Because speedgrader can't handle that the questions are shuffled... I have my Short Answers shuffled, so when I click next student it just shows me which ever SA question they got first, instead of the one I was grading for the previous student.... This is very annoying... and should be an easy fix. Also, please add Turnitin integration, so I can be confident they're not copying and pasting information from google into their short answer responses... Pretty much everything a student does needs to be checked for plagiarism --- from the internet and from students in the current course and previous sections of the course at the university...

Agreed. Sometimes I have to result to googling certain phrases of their answers to see if they found it online. It is very inefficient...

This is silly.... If the issue is processing speed, have the software only display 50 questions on each 'page' and then you have to hit 'next page' to see the next set of 50 questions and hit 'question details'

Ahh thank you, yes, I found the answer via another idea: https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/9629-how-about-an-e-mail-selected-users-function-in-the-gradebook However, I want the ability to message students from the individual quiz/assignment... Why have only 2 of the options on the individual item instead of all 4 that are available in the grade book.???

Thank you! I tried this and it did work... But that is a whole LOT of extra (unnecessary) steps... if they would just integrate Twitter javascript like they do for Youtube...

I agree; I wish I could see how Canvas looks to a particular student to see if they can see my feedback on assignments, correct answers for quizzes, or what things they get notifications about (see their specific 'course steam').

You should also be able to message students who score below a certain value (e.g., 60%). Because one of the first things I do, before grading, is set the grades to 0 for people with missing work... which then negates the entire function of that missing assignment message. Also, I want to message people with low scores too, not just those who didn't turn it in... In fact, I think your competitor (D2L) let me do that in my previous courses I taught using them. Furthermore, I HATE that the test student is included in all of these messages, statistics (mean, sd), # of people left to grade, etc. I like being able to see it from the students' point of view; I just don't think the profile should function as an actual student. If this is you, upvote my idea: https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/9636-exclude-test-student-from-statistics or https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/6082-real-student-view?sr=search&searchId=ca810cc6-98e8-4ad0-8438-e93dc0927265&searchIndex=0 idea.

Canvas already supports Youtube as an app, which is why we can embed iframes of youtube videos in pages on Canvas. However, I think it would be helpful if we could also embed Twitter Timelines (click here to get easy HTML code for specific tweets) and "embedly cards" (easy way to add a preview/iframe) into pages on Canvas as well.
Isn't the embedly card much more engaging than just using a hyperlink for external content you want your students to read, interact with, etc.? http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/23/opinion/lady-gaga-and-the-life-of-passion.html ...Also, I'm pretty sure when I make content pages for my course it doesn't automatically do this: Lady Gaga and the Life of Passion - The New York Times, which it did when I entered the above URL; this would be nice to have for the content pages.
Canvas Support told me that they do not currently support this custom HTML code that these websites create for sharing various content. But, if students can see a preview of a link embedded within the post, they are much more likely to click on the link and interact with the content.
Example HTML Code for Embedding Youtube, Twitter, & Embedly:
<p><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/VAaYCTpBdwM?start=77" width="560" height="315" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe></p>
<a class="twitter-timeline" data-width="500" data-height="1000" data-theme="light" href="https://twitter.com/APA_Style">Tweets by APA_Style</a> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<a href="http://embed.ly" class="embedly-card">Embedly</a> <a class="embedly-card" href="http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2012/03/how-to-capitalize-and-format-reference-titles-in-apa-style.html#undefined.fnmz"/a>

Hi @GregoryBeyrer , I also had to change my modules to use "prerequisites" and "requirements" for the entire class, in lieu of the lock dates on my modules, to allow her to work ahead... which then allows everyone to work ahead... Luckily, I may have found a little bit of a workaround that will keep the rest of the class from trying to do a month's worth of work in a week, by only giving her "early access" to the assignments in each module, and then setting the assignments as "requirements" to access the next module. This workaround is more complex than what it needs to be, and I'm not sure that it will actually work, because if a student doesn't complete their discussion board or quiz for Topic 4, it won't let them move on to Topic 5, per my "requirements"... So, I will probably have to go and manually unlock each module on Sundays for the next several weeks... Since you can't have both prerequisites and an unlock date (i.e., if they don't meet the requirements, unlock the module after xyz date)... 😞 I agree, the MasteryPaths is a lot more complex than what our situations (*exceptions*) call for. It seems like adding in this functionality for modules should be simple since it is similar to what they already have available for assignments...

THIS IS FROM 2 YEARS AGO. Come on Canvas! My modules are set to open up each Sunday, which is good for most of the class. But, for one student, who is going to be out for surgery, I would like to give her the ability to work ahead, and I can't figure out how to do that without giving it to everyone? Canvas Help told me: "module dates are set at the course level and cannot be edited at the student level, the system will not allow to have separate dates for single users. This explains why you are unable to set up these parameters." and then referred me to this idea post... Come on Canvas!
