@rodney_bowder Rodney, Gosh, I'm sorry I didn't see your question sooner. Bb charges us for access to the archive. It looks the same as the instance we used. You still have admin privileges to download courses and look up information and retrieve files. We felt it was necessary in case we had to look back at courses for any reason. I haven't had to go to the archive in a long time. Take care.

Frostburg State University switched to Canvas over a year ago. The way we handled it, we decided to go with a Blackboard Archive. We signed with Canvas in December 0f 2017. Started our Pilot in January of 2018 for the Spring semester. We went live with everyone using Canvas at the end of May 2018 for the Summer semesters. We did not migrate courses over from Blackboard. Instead, we held workshops and helped faculty export their Blackboard courses and Import those courses into Canvas. We put the responsibility in the faculty's hands. I think it made the faculty react quickly as we didn't have a lot of time. This also left the decision up to faculty whether they wanted to import courses into Canvas or copy and past things from Bb to Canvas. The only other option was to begin from scratch and build their courses without copying anything over. When we went live with Canvas, our contract with Blackboard ended. We have only had the Bb archive from that point. We have gone in a few times and have retrieved exports of courses for some faculty in the archive. We input a help desk ticket when such a request was made. This helped us to keep track of those. I can tell you there may have been 10 or 15 times that we have had to retrieve export courses. The implementation went smoothly and it pretty much a well oiled machine. It was much easier than I anticipated. We still have the archive and I believe we will have it for about 4 more years. I hope this helps you.

Hi Doug, For what it's worth, I can tell you what we did when we moved from Bb to Canvas last May 2018. We chose to have faculty move their own content over to Canvas. We let them know they could move everything, somethings, or nothing. They could copy and paste stuff from Bb to Canvas, but we put the responsibility on them. We did provide tips such as not importing wikis, blogs, etc. We did make ourselves available for help and we offered training sessions, workshops, and drop in hours for help in a lab. The one big benefit by doing it this way was by making it their responsibility. I think it helped get many of the faculty to analyze what they absolutely needed. Many of the faculty said it was the push they needed to really clean up their courses. It was something they wanted to do, but kept putting off. This kept them from putting it off any longer.

I was able to download it into a shell. But, I made sure I was logged in first and then when I clicked on Erin's link above, it took me right into where I could download it into a course.

We are using it at Frostburg State University. We had a bumpy start with it the first semester, but then this past Spring semester went a little better. I think we have all of the kinks worked out. We'll see how it goes on May 29th. When I tested it, all went well. (Fingers crossed)

I appreciated getting to see some of the designs from the reply posts. Also, I like the idea of linking from the Home (Front) page to a "about me" page.

I am too new to Canvas to help you out, but from reading your post I found out that Turnitin is going to have major changes this summer. So, I appreciate finding that out. We are currently piloting Canvas, but our go live date is May 29th and we do have Turnitin integrated into Canvas. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm excited to meet you in person today! I just wanted to comment regarding the student experience. I do think you are correct. That is the best way to try and get faculty who are not using the LMS to start using it. The students have been telling me how much they like it better than the current LMS we have. One thing my institution did was pilot it for the semester before we go live. Our go live date is May 29th, 2018. Having it piloted with 15 faculty currently teaching in Canvas was the right decision. Those faculty are creating a positive vibe about it with their fellow faculty. They have become our power users who are helping each other help faculty in their departments.
