Nate Garrelts is a Professor of English at Ferris State University where he specializes in cultural studies, contemporary American literature, and
composition-rhetoric. In addition to publishing on topics ranging from instructional comics to film representations of pimps, he has edited four collections on digital games. His first book, Digital Gameplay (2005), examined the intersections between games and gamers. Later books help readers understand a single game or franchise by presenting multiple academic perspectives. These books include The Meaning and Culture of Grand Theft Auto (2006), Understanding Minecraft (2014), and Responding to Call of Duty (2017). He has served as a writing center director, writing program coordinator, and primary investigator on several grants. Nate has been teaching online courses since 2001 and is passionate about technology.
