Hi Chris, Even with the " Don't let teachers modify course availability dates" enabled, the term dates can be changed if teachers use dates that are different from the term dates when using the "Adjust course dates and events" feature when copying a course. I have reported the issue to Canvas, and I was told that the feature works the way it should. Thank you for the offer of your script, but I simply run a SIS Export report to see any dates that are changed, and I provide our instructors with the correct term dates to use when using using the "Adjust course dates and events" feature. There is also a problem when using Safari with New Quizzes. If you click on the kabob to the right of a new quiz title, the drop down menu does not function properly.

Canvas now provides an administrative switch that will prevent teachers from modifying course availability dates. However, even when this switch is selected, instructors using the “Adjust events and due dates” option when importing course content can override the term dates. To make it worse, if the “Do not allow teachers to modify course availability dates” is turned on, the instructors are not able to change from incorrect course dates to the term dates. I would like to suggest that Canvas allows instructors to adjust course dates, but after the adjustment is made, the term dates would be automatically selected instead of the course dates. The colleges could then use or not use the switch that prevents the instructor from changing the course dates.

However, institutions should also be able to prevent the overriding of SIS term dates when instructors make a copy of a course using the “Adjust events and due dates” feature. This creates the same type of problem.

Changing the start and end dates under course settings overrides our SIS settings creating student access issues and administrative problems.
Not only can an instructor intentionally or mistakenly change the dates under course settings, the dates can also be changed when course content is imported and the adjust dates feature is used.
The ability to change start and end dates for courses needs to be controlled at the administrative level. An on/off switch can be provided so that institutions can make their own decision as to whether or not to allow the feature.
