Problem statement:
We would like the ability to completely terminate student access to a Catalog course after the "days to complete" have expired. Currently, with open enrollment courses, we can set the number of "days to complete", but students retain access to course materials and resources after that date.
Proposed solution:
It would be useful to add an option related to the "days to complete" setting in which we can opt to completely end access/unenroll the student after their days to complete are up. With this option we could offer open enrollment on a rolling basis with no universal end date to the course and allow students to be able to register at any time and then have their access completely end after 1 year. This will allow us to offer a "1 year subscription" to the course and its resources which students must enroll and pay for again if they want access after their 1 year is up. As it stands right now, the access to the resources never ends.

We have this same need. I'm not sure why this issue is marked as "Solved". As I understand the explanation, it is saying that there is currently no way to do this. That's not "solved."

I will also add that the current display is confusing. Some links that are disabled still show with the slashed eye icon to show that they are not visible to students, but then the enabled links do not show the slashed eye icon even though they are not visible to students. This makes those enabled instructor-only links look like they are visible to students.

I agree with @WK90 on this one. Especially now with the "sticky nav", having all of these extra disabled navigation links is causing that annoying extra scroll bar to take up even more screen real-estate. I don't agree with having our school administration remove them because different types of classes have different needs. For instance, some of the more discussion-oriented courses might use Discussions, Collaborations, and Conferences, but most of our math classes do not, so it would be great if we could choose to remove those from our master courses and eliminate the scroll bar.
Perhaps adding an extra category in the Navigation Settings - enabled for students and instructors, enabled for instructors only, disabled completely. That would allow for all instructors and departments to have exactly what they need and nothing they don't!

Making the name of the course, complete with section number, "sticky" at the top or side of the screen is an absolute necessity. It's one thing for instructors with several courses. It's a whole other problem for administrators who could be viewing hundreds of courses. Scrolling to the top of the screen just to see where I am is tedious and irritating.

Here is a screencast of the behavior I am currently seeing with the term label at the top of the new sticky nav. https://uta.instructuremedia.com/embed/0c00dc0c-83c8-4be1-b56c-e8a71a3f986b

With the new "sticky nav", the term now appears at the top of the left-hand navigation and does not scroll off the page. I rarely need to be reminded what term I am looking at. What I need to know is which of my classes I am looking at without scrolling back to the top of the screen.
The label at the top of the newly-sticky navigation menu should be the class name or number rather than the term.

I am both a student in a Canvas course and a Canvas course designer. As a student, I am finding a great need to be able to check off or otherwise indicate what I have completed in my course. The to-do list doesn't work for all things in the module, only for assignments. I would like to be able to check off any module item, whether it is a page to read or video page to watch, and journal entry, discussion board, or anything, even the ungraded items. They still need to get done in a timely fashion and clicking back through the module to remind myself where I left off is a giant waste of time. As a course designer, I don't know that I necessarily want to have to "create" the checklist for my students. If I put it in the module, then it needs to get done and it needs to be on the checklist automatically. Simply providing a checkbox for each item in the module would solve the problem and not create any more work for the designers or instructors.

Having just moved to Canvas (from Blackboard) we, too, are looking for ways to automate the peer evaluation process as described here. Previously, we had built Qualtrics surveys personalized to each class based on a the group rosters from Blackboard. Now, that process is even more time-consuming since I can't even download a group roster from Canvas (but that is a rant for another post). I've been told that our university cannot use the SPLAT tool as it requires a personal server to install. We just got the same price quote from Buddycheck as Nicole Langton. Their tool worked like a charm, taking almost no time to set up, but our department is only needing to use it in one course which makes the $10k+ per year price tag out of our budget. Is anyone else frustrated at being forced to pay for third party apps on top of what we pay for Canvas to do the things that folks have been requesting from Canvas for years? @Renee_Carney stated 3 and a half years ago that this was a great idea that they had seen different versions of in prior voting periods. At this point I don't even care so much about having the peer evaluation automatically affect the group grade. I can manually change individual students' grades. I just need to get the evaluation done without re-inventing the wheel.
