I should probably point out that my interest in this area is driven by the introduction of New Quizzes, which have not been thought through either pedagogically or technically. How these could be seen a suitable replacement for Classic Quizzes (which are in themselves lacking) is beyond me. As an English senior lecturer, full stack programmer and educational developer, I would say that they are fit for very little and don't stand up to exercises that were being used last century. It gives me very little faith in Instructure if they think New Quizzes are fit for purpose.

Thanks for your reply. It seems strange that an institute can't audit the use of Quizzes within Canvas, even more odd if institutes aren't asking the question. Institutes make a decision about which LMS to use based on expectations that can be delivered, so how are they checking that they are getting what they expect? I am not part of the team that manage our relationship with Instructure, so don't access the Customer Success Managers and those who manage it don't seem interested. I realise that using the API this could probably be easily automated but again have no such access. Thanks for your response.

Thank you so much for this response. I have been communicating with Canvas support about this for a couple of months now and dynamic page generation with React elements makes total sense to what I am seeing. Unfortunately, I have not been given any rights to upload javaScript, so despite your suggestion sounding interesting, I'm not sure there is much I can do with it. However, that doesn't take away from the fact that you are the first person to make any sense on this issue, I thank you unreservedly!

Since around the introduction of the new HTML and Rich Text Editor for Pages, the layout of one of our courses has ben crippled. We spotted the issues on 8th September this year, although they may have occurred earler as the course was inactive at the time. We were using an alternative menu structure to overlay the left hand menu (Home, Modules, etc.) and the top breadcrumb trail. This worked exactly as we had hoped until a change in the page layout ocurred. During page load the menu appears in the correct position but is then moved as the page loads further. I have been back and forth with Instruture Support for the past 7 weeks. All they have tried is to point fingers at me but then disengage when their assertions are shown to be incorrect (at one point accusing me of pirating their code through the Consol). Then they return to their fall back position, saying they don't support custom HTML or CSS. They told me that "we began enforcement of the banned html tags" (but then refused to identify those tags in my code, just directing me to the list of allowed HTML) and one of them let slip that they "are stopping any interface elements being overlayed" but then said no more when asked to expand on the statement. They also say that nothing has happened on the platform that they are aware of that could cause this issue (make your minds up please). None of this gives me faith in their technical ability, nor in their desire to support users. Their claim to be "working hard to meet the needs of all Canvas users" is clearly not true in this case. The clearest change that we are seeing is that the 0,0 position on the page is being changed during load and that our menu elements that previously could overlay Canvas elements are now forced behind them. Any help in resolving this issue would be gratefully received.

Why is this marked as solved? The link provided is to a discussion by people upset at the ridiculous decision to make Matching all-or-nothing from 2 years go. They haven't done anything to make matching work correctly in this time (I am an instructional designer and the current marking scheme is quite simply wrong!) I also think that calling this "partial credit" is wrong. There seems to be a confusion in Canvas as of what is a question and what is an exercise. A question is a single item, an exercise is multiple items. Matching contains multiple items, so it is an exercise. Each item in an exercise should be awarded marks independent of the other items. My other gripe about the way they have realised matching is that for teaching in particular it should be a one to one match. Once an item has been matched it should no loner be available for other matches. This approach encourages discovery learning and better reflects the way matching used to be done in the classroom with cut up bits of paper. It means that a student can approach the exercise by completing the answers they are sure of, thus narrowing down the choices for the items they are unsure of. There seems to be very little pedagogy put into the design of these exercises. I am losing patience with Canvas in so many ways!
