It would be helpful to have a way to unassign certain assignments to a section (when released) or individual plan. For our institution, we have both high school and adult students enrolled in the same course, and certain assignments may apply to one or the other group.

In courses with lots of students, the assign tos at the bottom of each assignment page gets out of hand pretty quickly and editing assignments can get tedious when you have to scroll through dozens of student assign tos just to get to the save button. This could easily be resolved if assignments with more than x assign tos was minimized by default and could then be expanded to show all assign tos for editing if desired.

Take a look at your url. Does it look something like this? school.instructure.com/courses/#/assignments/#/submissions/# If not, you may be in the wrong spot. You mentioned you went to grades. Did you then click on the link to the individual assignment?

While it's true Canvas hasn't created an interface for deleting comments, students DO have the access rights to delete comments, they're just missing a button to do it. If you are a student and would like to delete a comment without reaching out to your teacher, here are the steps you should follow. 1. Open Canvas in Chrome and navigate to the submission page where you can see your comment you'd like to delete. 2. Open the Chrome console (ctrl + shift + i) 3. I was asked this question by an instructor, and this thread was at the top of the search results. After some investigating, it turns out it's possible, though unnecessarily obscure. 1. Go to the page where you would normally access your analytics. 2. Locate your url (it should look something like .../courses/COURSE_ID/quizzes/QUIZ_ID) 3. add /statistics to the end of your URL. (it should now look something like .../courses/COURSE_ID/quizzes/QUIZ_ID/statistics) 4. Hit enter Basically the analytics are always there, Canvas has just opted to hide the link for some unknown reason.

Just had a teacher run into this issue. Apparently it's still not fixed, so I'll post an alternative solution here in case you have a course where you can't/don't want to add a student back in to view statistics. Quizzes all have the same URL pattern in canvas: https://myschool.instructure.com/courses/[COURSE_ID]/quizzes/[QUIZ_ID] On a given quiz, you can delete everything after the quiz id and then add /statistics to the end of the url. Example Quiz URL: https://myschool.instructure.com/courses/123456/quizzes/1234567 Quiz Statistics URL: https://myschool.instructure.com/courses/123456/quizzes/1234567/statistics If there is junk after the quiz id, you'll have to first delete that. Quiz URL w/ Junk: https://myschool.instructure.com/courses/123456/quizzes/1234567?module_item_id=1234567 Clean URL: https://myschool.instructure.com/courses/123456/quizzes/1234567?module_item_id=1234567 Cleaned URL: https://myschool.instructure.com/courses/123456/quizzes/1234567 Quiz Statistics URL: https://myschool.instructure.com/courses/123456/quizzes/1234567/statistics

When receiving an email notification that a message was received via Conversations, there is an option at the bottom of the email to "View this message in Conversations." The HTML for this link indicates it is designed to take the user directly to that conversation as the link has the conversation ID in it. E.g. https://*.instructure.com/conversations/####### However, if you click on the link it simply redirects to a generic page with no specific conversation being shown. It would be great if this link pulled up the conversation, as often teachers have dozens of conversations to sort through and it can be difficult to locate the desired conversation.

Our institution is looking into ways to improve security with our user login process. I'm wondering if Canvas has any of the following features. 1. A way to suggest users update their password X months after their last password change. 2. A way to have a one time password on account creation, then force users to update that password. Our SIS creates user accounts and sets a temporary password, but a lot of students just keep the temp password. 3. An API call to check the last time a user updated their password. If this existed, we could build some in house solutions for the above two features. Thanks!

I have been told there is not one. Additionally, this thread, though a little old, says the same thing. https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Developers-Group/Is-There-a-Test-Bank-API/td-p/129181 HOWEVER, Respondus is somehow able to create test banks through their desktop tool, so there must be some work around. Hopefully someone else is able to provide more information.

The javascript wouldn't be saved in the editor. Instead, it would be an empty div that's replaced with the input box which allows typing HTML on page load, that way students could only run things locally.

I'm brainstorming a tool for our web development class that would allow students to practice HTML within a Canvas page. The format would be they would enter some html in a textarea, and see their parsed html right below it. I've included a mockup image. Functionally I'm imagining it would be something like using jquery to watch the text area and then set the html of an output div based on the text in the text area. Here's a quick sample of just that part. input.on('input', function () { display.html($(this).val()); }); However, I'm wondering what the security concerns would be with this. With my limited understanding, I don't see how it would be any different than a student running scripts in the console, but I'm guessing I'm missing something.

First, I support this being a feature. I had tested it in chrome, edge, and firefox with the issue persisting across browsers, but thank you for the information. Hopefully it is helpful for someone else.

I am trying to adjust the default size of headers for our institution, and while doing some testing in our beta instance, I noticed that anytime I set a pixel size in the CSS, it gets reduced to 75% of the value I enter. h2 { font-size: 18px; } There's the css I did for testing, but instead of 18px, it gets reduced to 14px. I tried a bunch of sizes and confirmed it consistently gets reduced by the same percentage. Does anyone know why this is the case. I can of course just set everything to (desired value / .75), but my concern would be that whatever is causing the reduction won't happen on every device, on every page, etc so sizes would be inconsistent. Thanks for any insight.

Thanks, starting it off unpublished then publishing it after adding the questions worked. Just because I was curious, I checked to see if editing an existing quiz with the API, unpublishing it, then republishing it would work as well and it does. I tried using the console to figure out the internal call, but didn't have any luck. Thanks for the help!

I've written a simple script to add a series of quizzes to the end of each module in a department. There's some other stuff happening around this to figure out the title, answers, and some other pieces, but the code at the bottom shows my API requests to create the quiz and then to add a question to the quiz. The quiz and question is created fine, but if a student takes the quiz, the question does not show up. If an instructor opens the quiz, there is a message saying the instructor must first save the quiz. If they click the save button, the questions then show up for students.
