So no. It looks like the answer to the question is no. You can’t do this obvious, simple, needed, and requested for 2 years feature. Does anyone have a yes answer?

Thanks for the information. I need for the replies to be visible all the time. I use the discussion board extensively for answering content questions and students need to be able to easily search each question and thread for those answers. That means scrolling down, viewing the questions and viewing the answers as you scroll. Currently, with the old discussion board, that is incredibly easy and useful. However, if you have to click on each thread to open it, they won't be able to easily use it for that purpose, and that's the only purpose I use the discussion board for. Even worse would be to force them to use a search dialogue box --that would be much more difficult for them since questions and answers can be rather unstructured when it comes to what students don't understand.

Thanks for the information. I looked at the announcement. It said the "outcomes analysis report" could be downloaded as a csv file. If that outcomes analysis report includes student by student individual question responses in a csv file, like you can do in classic quizzes, then yes, this would meet my needs. If not, then no, it doesn't meet my needs. I've avoided New Quizzes like the plague after spending a lot of time moving material there last year only to find it didn't support download, so I haven't tested that, or anything, in New Quizzes recently. Do you know first hand if that "outcomes analysis report" includes individual student question by question responses? Thanks for your help!

Yes, I suspect the “shiny objects” problem of feature development has come into play. If they’d ask actual higher Ed users what they think about their new features before rolling them out, it would be a more useful product. A case in point is their new discussion board which has done away with threaded replies. Why do away with a useful features?? It’s the only feature I absolutely need. I’ll have to go with a commercial discussion board if they do away with the old discussion board. Blackboard’s threaded discussion board was way better than either of these products.

Thanks, but yes, I've seen it. I need to be able to download individual question responses by student to Excel, like I can with Classic Quizzes. It seems like an obvious feature to have for New Quizzes, along with the ability to convert Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes and export New Quizzes, but apparently not as obvious as I think.

I made the terrible mistake of creating a ton of algorithmically generated quantitative questions in an item bank on New Quizzes. Well, New Quizzes is non-functional when it comes to downloading item analysis and using for any intelligent assessment purposes and so I need this bank to be in Old Quizzes. There is a work around going the wrong way---getting Old Quizzes banks into New Quizzes via quiz export and reimport, but what about the other way? I need to convert a New Quizzes item bank into an Old Quizzes Question Bank. You can't even export New Quizzes at all! I know now I should never have used New Quizzes in the first place--I'll never make that mistake again, but is there any way to recover from this mistake, short of re-creating all of those quiz questions in Old Quizzes?

I agree. This is ridiculous! New Quizzes is terrible! Don't use it! I used it this week and just discovered I can't download student responses. NEVER AGAIN!

Did you just say I can't download the student responses? In New Quizzes? What the f**k? How can you not have that option? You should have a big banner on New Quizzes that says "Don't use this! You won't be able to do the things you need to do if you use it!"

Yes, I couldn't figure out how to get the discussion board to automatically show the threads so eventually I had to turn off new features entirely. I need for the discussion board to show all the threads automatically for everyone for it to serve my needs. There's no point in having it (for my purposes) if it doesn't. If you are going to do away with automatic display of threads, please let us know so we can find some other discussion board external to Canvas to use that behaves properly.

Thanks @ColtonSwapp for responding. It looks like you said I could have up to 3 different stimulus questions with questions associated with each stimulus/question group in an exam, but that's not exactly what I asked. I'd like to know whether I could do the following: Stimulus A and 20 questions associated with stimulus A Stimulus B and 20 questions associated with stimulus B Stimulus C and 20 questions associated with stimulus C And then some questions taken at random from some other question banks. Each student's test would have EITHER A and its questions, OR B and its questions, OR C and its questions. But not all 3. How do I create a quiz like this? In my case, the Stimulus A, B and C would be financial statements with different numbers and students would answer questions about only one set. But since there are 3 different versions, it is less likely that their neighbor will get the same stimulus and therefore have the same answers.

So if I can't randomize the stimulus/question block among students, can I simply make 3 versions of the exam and randomize the entire exam among students? That should be really easy to implement! I know I can do this in Akindi online but that application doesn't integrate with Proctorio. Can I do it with Canvas quizzing?

This is the simplest thing in the world and should be possible--but I don't see an answer. I want to create 3 (or 4 or 5) versions of a complete test. Each version of the test will have, say 25 questions. I want to assign the 3 versions randomly to my students. I don't want each question independently randomized. I don't want 25 question banks with 3 versions of each question because some of the questions will be stimulus/question blocks with multiple questions tied to a stimulus. I just want the entire test delivered randomly.

Specifically: Create Stimulus A, Stimulus B, Stimulus C Attach questions A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 to stimulus A Attach questions B1 B2 B3 B4 B5 to stimulus B Attach questions C1 C2 C3 C4 C5 to stimulus C Be able to randomly assign Stimulus A, B, or C and their associated questions to students in the class. I don't think you answered the question. As I read the answer, you've described how to randomly assign questions from a bank to a specific stimulus. You haven't described how to randomly assign different stimului to different students and have the appropriate questions follow the stimulus. What I and others want to do is this: Create Stimulus A, Stimulus B, Stimulus C Attach questions A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 to stimulus A Attach questions B1 B2 B3 B4 B5 to stimulus B Attach questions C1 C2 C3 C4 C5 to stimulus C Be able to randomly assign Stimulus A, B, or C and their associated questions to students in the class.

Canvas tech support has answered different questions surrounding this issue, but I've never found an answer to this specific question even though a bunch of people have asked this exact thing: I have a quiz that links to about 22 different question banks. Basically, each of the question banks has 10 versions of a question. In this way, every student gets a different version of the same test. I want to duplicate this quiz, perhaps several times, WITHIN MY SAME COURSE. I don't want to copy it to another course, and I want the duplicated quiz to continue to be linked to the question banks. One Canvas tech support suggested exporting the the quiz and related question banks to a .qti file and then reimporting them into another course. I want this in the SAME course, not a different course. If I follow these instructions and import the qti file into my same course, I'll get extra versions of the quiz but also of the question banks? If I follow these directions and import the .qti file 3 times to make 3 copies, I don't also want 3 copies of each of the 22 question banks! I want the all of the duplicated quizzes to refer to the question banks that are there now.

thanks, let me clarify. I'd like to have a stimulus (say financial statements) with one set of numbers and say 4 questions that refer to those numbers. Then another stimulus with slightly different numbers and the same 4 questions that refer to those numbers. Do that x 5 and all of those in a single question bank that has 5 versions of the same 4 questions-stimulus and then Canvas would select one of those blocks for a student. So each student would receive one of those 5 blocks of 4 questions and the associated stimulus. This would be to go along with other question groups (at least that's how they work in the old quiz engine) so every student would receive pretty much a different exam--same questions, just different numbers as the answers. To summarize, this is just like question groups in the old quizzing engine, but rather than have, say, 5 questions with different numbers in a question group linked to a question bank, I'd like 5 blocks of (say) 4 questions linked to a stimulus where the stimulus is the same for the 4 questions but varies across the blocks.

Migrating old quiz banks to the new quiz engine: I have about 100 different question types, each with 5 versions. These are ones I've made myself--they are not from a publisher's question bank. That makes for 100 question banks--one question type per bank. When I create a quiz in the old quizzing engine, I create a question group, select one of the banks, and it picks one of the versions of that question. So each student gets the same question types but different versions. So how do I import all 100 question banks, each of which has 5 question versions, into the new quizzing engine? On these help pages I've seen things that seem to imply I must create 100 different single-bank quizzes, each of which pulls all 5 questions from a single bank, export each one individually into its own QTI file and then reimport each quiz separately into a new quizzes question bank. x 100. Is this really the way Canvas wants us to migrate to the new quiz engine? Is there even a slightly more efficient way?#
