Hey, Adam! It can, but that is something you might want to reach out to your IT department about (or whoever handles your platform issues). You could also go into settings for your course and set an end date if administration has allowed for that. That will end your course and move it to "all courses." You could still access it at any time, but it will at least move all the courses off of your dashboard and you could only find them by going to "courses" and then "all courses." Hope that helps! In the age of technology, I would hate to say anything is impossible, however, it definitely shouldn't happen. Students do not have access to your files. And you can even check this out by going to "student view" from your home page and you can see exactly what the students see. Now, if you linked the document to a published assignment that might have appeared in a module or calendar, then I would say there might be the possibility for that because the students can still see the assignment and description, just won't be able to do anything until the open date. However, you said it was unpublished which just seems so unlikely, unless there was a glitch which we totally know technology does those things. Next time you do something like that, I would definitely check out the student view and make sure you can't find it as a test student. If you can't find it, then they won't find it. Hope that helps a little! Deirdre

Hey, Michael! I'm unsure of what you mean by locked, but a student does have access to assignments from the calendar or from the module. If the assignment has not yet opened yet or as already closed, then no, the student should not be able to do anything more than click the assignment and see the directions. The only exception to this is say you don't have a timer on a quiz. Students can start a quiz and walk away from it. Say the quiz closes Friday, April 24. A student can go in Saturday, April 25 and still see the quiz and questions, but since it is past the available date, it will automatically submit the quiz and not let them complete any more questions. I hope that helps! Deirdre

Hey, Cynthia! Could she not just delete the assignment and create it again with the correct formatting? If not and you think the best thing is to just assign zeros for the current assignment created, you could go in and have the assignment calculated out of 0 points OR check the box that says "do not include in the final grade." And she doesn't have to enter zeros for every student. She can click the 3 vertical dots next to the assignment on the grades screen and she can select "set default grade" and assign all students a zero. If a student currently has a grade in there, she can even select the box to override any grade currently in there. Hope that helps! Deirdre

Hey, Kate! At this time, it looks like you only have the option to assign the quiz to an individual, section, or everyone. You can check out the document here: What options can I set in a quiz? A work around, however, would be creating the quiz and not making it visible to the students. You could create an assignment and put a link to the quiz in the assignment description box. Then you could give that assignment to a group of students. I know it adds an extra step, but might serve as an alternative to achieve this task. Hope that helps! Deirdre

Students do not have access to your files. They can only see the images that you have placed within the quiz. On Wed, Mar 18, 2020 at 3:51 PM mjones@collegeofidaho.edu <

From your homepage you can go to "student view" and you can see exactly what the students see! However, you should not need to upload the images first. I will show the steps below for a quiz I currently have and I will make the adjustments to add in images. Click in to the quiz, and go to edit. Next, select the "questions" tab and hover over so you can choose the pencil next to the question you want to edit. Click in the textbox as for where you want to place your image. You can also add images in the feedback section, as well, you cannot use images for answer choices, but I can show you how I work around that if you are interested. Then scroll back to the top and select the images tab. Then you can select upload a new image. Browse your computer for the image you need, select upload, and it might take a second, but your image will appear! On Tue, Mar 17, 2020 at 12:30 PM mjones@collegeofidaho.edu <

I see the screenshot from your main page. The tab that is pictured in the images above and that I am referencing are actually in where you create the quiz. Go back to quizzes, go to + quiz (to create a quiz) and then you should see the images tab. You will also see that images tab when you create an assignment, discussion post, a page....nearly anything you create in Canvas. Hope that helps! Take a look at the screen shots above. The image tab is right next to the files tab. They are on the right-hand side of your screen as you are creating a quiz (or really anything). You cannot copy and paste images. You can copy and paste bitmojis, but you have to have images saved and upload as images in order to access that way.

Have you looked in Commons? You can probably find tons of things other people have used for ideas! If you see it in Commons it is because people have shared it and you can use most of the items if they decided to not copyright it. I teach high school and mine is very specific to the school and is much more student-centered than you are probably looking for, but maybe someone else in the community will have something they can share with you via Commons, as well!

Once you access the course, you should see these links on the left: I would argue that most instructors and professors keep the content of the course under the "modules" section. Have you checked here? Do you see some links similar to this in your course? If not, I would reach out to the professor or teacher as that will be a navigation setup they will need to adjust for you to see!

Canvas Studio is the best thing ever! If your school does not allow students to access Canvas Studio, I would definitely ask! Students can record themselves or upload a recording to YouTube and then add it to Studio and submit to you! Here is an article about Canvas Studio in case you do have this feature: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-14264-50736843085

I'm assuming this is an actual assignment that you had students submit via a dropbox type thing....? If so, in speed grader, there is download link on the top left. If you click that you can download the student's assignment. If it's a quiz or a discussion post, the only answer I know is to actually print the screen. Let me know if that helps!

Thanks for the information! I have used Canvas for my personal schooling where professors have uploaded PowerPoints with embedded audio. They didn’t play through Canvas, but downloading the PowerPoint would do the trick. Wonder if it’s something like that here. Are students trying to play the audio through Canvas? What if they actually download the content? Does that work? As far as screencast, you can or can’t be seen. If you have a webcam, you can turn it on if you want, but you don’t have to. Unfortunately, since your PowerPoint would be shared via a recording, it would not make your links active. You could save your slides as a PDF and that will keep all the links as active. Have your video of you presenting the lecture. That would require your students to watch the recording and also open a separate document with active links to click through it. Is that an option? I know for my students if I start sending them to too many places they shut down. So just a thought.

Wondering if it's a size issue: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12708-4152719727 I would consider uploading it to YouTube as unlisted so only people with the link can see it. Then you can take that link and add it into Studio in Canvas and then from Studio you could move it into modules. Just a thought!

Oh that's frustrating I just looked through some of the Canvas resources and I don't see anything more about it. I would do exactly what you do and just have screenshots and videos of how to turn it in, but that must be annoying. Question - are these actual Google Doc assignments? I have embedded the assignments into Canvas and then when they submit there's a little button in the top corner where they submit it. The only problem I foresee is they have to have their Google Drive linked to Canvas in order for this to work, which would be another screencast and directions for doing that....sooooo might not be the best idea! haha I'm trying, I'm trying!

Nope. Your only option is a quiz. Now, when you title it, you can give it the title of "US History Exam," but the actual category that you will use to grade and classify is a quiz.

Weird. It should be auto-synced. As soon as I click on studio and then record and then webcam capture, I see all the beauty! Not to ask a basic question, but have you gone to your computer settings to ensure that your webcam is reading properly? Based on the help documents, it appears it only works in Firefox and Chrome, so I would definitely check your browser, as well. Maybe this will help with some trouble-shooting ideas: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-14264-50736843085

You can turn off how they submit the document! I would choose that they only submit the URL and then that should get rid of the issue.

It should..... Go in to create a quiz and you want a graded quiz (so that it will auto-grade) and you'll have to assign it an equal number of points, which you would anyways. So, make your 25 matching. Make the question out of 100 points and it will automatically deduct 4 points for each one incorrect since you have 25 matching worth 100 points. Does that make sense? Here is a multiple-choice from my recent quiz that was only 3 words and I made it out of 12 points and you can see she got one right so she received 4 points. Hope that helps!
