Bio:
Mary Holmes, MBA, currently holds a full-time position an instructor in Healthcare Management, English, and Sociology at Platt College, Alhambra, CA. She has been in this position for 8 years; it is her fourth major career.
Mary was born in San Antonio, TX, and attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX, where she received a BA Summa Cum Laude in Social Science, with a concentration in Political Science. Having been bitten by the photography bug in college, she decided to go into the professional photographic lab industry. She spent 20 years in this field, 15 in Texas. She moved to CA in 1988 and spent another 5 years in the industry as a production manager of a photo lab in Irvine, CA.
Her next career move was into education. She spent 10 years in administrative positions at Platt College in Orange County, in career services, outside sales, financial aid, and student accounts. During her tenure at Platt, she decided to pursue an MBA at Pepperdine University. Again, she succeeded academically, graduating in the top ½ of 1 percent of her class.
Then she moved into the mortgage banking industry, at a time when it was being subjected to much scrutiny and new laws and regulations. After 5 years, she decided it wasn’t her cup of tea, so she returned to education.
Mary brings passion to her classes: for the material, for her students’ academic success, and for their personal growth. She also brings a wealth of personal business experience; her anecdotes help bring the theories alive to her students.
Mary loves teaching and enjoys the opportunity to meet and interact with new students. She feels equally at ease in the on-ground and distance education (remote) learning environments.
