Use People to identify the student by typing their number in the search bar and seeing who comes up. The assignment search bar doesn't seam to let you input numbers, but here is a work around. Go to your assignment tab in Canvas. In the URL line you should see that the address ends with the word assignments - just add a forward slash (/) and the number from your error report (for example: .......assignments/550055 and search for that (enter/return). The assignment that uses that number should come right up so you can see which assignment it is by name. Then you can check for the student and the specific assignment in the grade book and work from there (my errors are usually that I removed a grade after it synced so I need to excuse the assignment or give them a grade even a 0 works. I can't go back to no grade at this point as usually there was no submission, but I entered a score on accident, it synced and then I tried to remove the grade. I hope this helps someone.

Yes - Please allow us to choose partial credit (or not) on any and all of the question types! I just used a category style question on a quiz with my students and made it worth 8 points and discovered after the students took the quiz that it was all or nothing so students who got 7/8 in the correct category got 0 points. I can see the need to sometimes have it be all or nothing, but we need to have the choice. If it defaults to the wrong choice or we choose the wrong option and need to change it, we need to be able to go back in to edit mode and have it auto grade the change. Regrading each one manually or with fudge points etc, is not practical with 240 students. Please make this change! Also it would be helpful to new users to add the word EDIT to the BUILD button on New Quizzes - it takes many teachers too many searches and questions to figure out that BUILD = EDIT.

There are so many great applications for graded surveys that educators have found as we have used Classic Quizzes, it would be a shame for Canvas to take that option away without providing it in New Quizzes. Yes, improvements can and should be made to the survey tool, but at least it easily integrates with the grade-book. Graded Surveys have value for so many educators, it needs to stay a part of Canvas (even if they just bring the same survey tool along and just change the quiz part of the tool. New Quizzes has some great features that Classic Quizzes does not have and after you get used to creating and editing (building) in New Quizzes, it is not painful to use and simple enough to use both Classic and New. The pain comes in turning Classic Quizzes that are working just fine into New Quizzes - No one wants to recreate quizzes from scratch and "fix" something that is not broken. I know Canvas is trying to work on ways to convert Classic to New, but I am not sold that this process is simple or easy. Why can't we keep and use both? Is the Classic Quiz tool broken in some way? My eighth grade students have gotten used to using both Classic and New and so have I. On another note, I would love to have a graded survey type essay question as part of the many question types in New Quizzes. Sometimes it is just not necessary to "grade" or evaluate everything a student has an opinion on or practices. Points for completion is sometimes good enough. I can easily check their answers if needed (or spot check as needed), but when I have 250 students taking a "quiz" (or doing a learning activity that happens to be in quiz form), I don't always want or need to view every opinion. I am reading some of the "work-around" solutions others have offered, but how would I do that for 1 question? I would really like to be able to have the option to let the students type in an answer and have it score a point value if they completed it. Maybe with a min. word count option or must contain a certain word/s etc. This could have so many positive applications for teachers and students! Along with this idea, I would love to have the option when I do want to grade an essay question, to have it move to the top in speed grader so I don't have to scroll through the quiz to get to the essay question that I wanted at the end of the quiz for the students, but need at the top for me to grade faster and easier. I am hoping that could be a simple request when we set up the quiz or begin to grade a quiz that only has one or two essay questions among the auto graded multiple choice and etc. questions.

I agree this would make things so much easier for students to navigate their assignments. My students are in Middle School and have a hard time with all their many classes. Their To-Do list is a mile long with every assignment and announcement etc. from every class - they don't even look at it anymore. The Checkboxes would be a great way while in each class to see what they have completed and what they needed to still do. Most of them go to the grade book to see what assignments are not completed and then they try to go back and do them (but some assignments don't link back very well and it is a pain to teach them that they have to go back to modules and open the assignment up again. The biggest problem with students relying on the grade book for what they should do next is that they are always behind. I've tried adding the checkboxes to my modules with limited success as there are some items that are not required and maybe only one item that needs to be done in a particular order. Maybe my modules are too long as I organize by unit and not by week, but It got confusing for the students and I had too many get locked out of assignments and not be able to stay current with us while they worked on backtracking the assignments they missed while they were sick so I gave up on checkbox requirements. I would love to see more options on the checkboxes and have something as simple as adding a checkbox that the student can fill in when they have completed the assignment or page or etc. It would be amazing if a check would appear when they submitted their assignments.
