An instructor creates a quiz that allows multiple attempts. The gradebook is set with a late policy. Sometimes a student starts -- but doesn't finish -- a subsequent attempt. When the quiz closes, the system will change the score in the gradebook to zero. Every time a quiz closes, the instructor has to change the "late" notation on the student's quiz grade to "none" to get the correct score. For example: Gradebook late policy is set to 10% per day. A quiz has two attempts. The quiz opens on Sept. 1 and closes on Sept. 11. A student's first attempt on Sept. 1st results in a score of 90/100. The student opens a second attempt, but does not finish it. The Gradebook shows a score of 90. On Sept 11th, the quiz closes and the student's grade is changed to zero in the Gradebook. The grade status indicates the test was submitted 10 days late. After the close date, the instructor changes the grade status from "late" to "none", restoring the score of 90. This has been happening for many years and we've been told it's a "quirk" of the system.

Hello Hivemind! I'm trying to come up with creative ways for an instructor to join a group for the purpose of Group Collaborations/Assignments. I have limited admin capabilities, but most instructors don't have any admin privileges. I'm teaching an "Advanced Teaching with Canvas" class on my campus. As a part of this, I'm having participants experience Groups and Collaborations from both the instructor and student perspective. Here's what they do: Create group sets and groups Create a Collaboration Participate in a Collaboration Grade a Group assignment It's the last one that has me stymied. Last session, I experimented with them being students in each others' sandboxes. This was great for those who were active in the class; the flakes made it really difficult. As I tweak the class, I'd like to come up with a way for them to see what grading groups looks like without everyone being held hostage by those flakes. I CAN do this: change my role to student and use my admin superpowers to join a group then submit a group assignment, which they then grade. No problem for me, really. However, if I let someone else teach this class, they won't have my admin superpowers to change their role to "student". Is there a way for mere mortal instructors to join an instructor-student's Sandbox as a student and thus be placed in a group? TIA! Leslee

I should add that the bottom of the edit screen has a place to add a rubric -- which i don't use for quizzes.

Hi All! I'm trying out "new" quizzes for the first time. And immediately got this error: "There is a problem with this assessment. Please contact your instructor." All I did was create it and save it. I know it's supposed to then give me all the options to set up the questions. Nada. Just this error message. And why doesn't it know that I AM the instructor? Sheesh. TIA! Leslee

Dude. I'm a psych professor, not a programmer. Thanks for answering. I ended up copying the rubrics over cell by cell. I got pretty good at it!

Hello Hivemind! My campus just lost our Turnitin account. Now we'll have to use the standard Speedgrader, rather than the pop-out we had before. I downloaded the rubrics from Turnitin -- .rbc files with no option for another format. I can't open these files in Word, Excel, or anything familiar. For the life of me, I can't figure out where or how to upload those files in Canvas! I know we can import rubrics from one Canvas course to another...but where do they GO? What format are they in? Rubrics have to be stored SOMEwhere. I read somewhere to convert the rbc > json > csv. Tried it. No luck. I read that the Outcomes page has an "import rubric" button. My version of Canvas doesn't. If you think I speak computerese, you are very wrong. Pretend I'm a 5-year-old and use small words. TIA! Leslee
