I see that this is still an issue...? On my computer (web version of Canvas), I can see the preview of the video, so it's clear that it's there. For students, they only see the Launch External Tool button on their Canvas app. It isn't obvious to them that there is a video hiding there, and I recently realized that many of them didn't even know there WERE videos of lectures they had missed. I'm not too excited about re-linking every single video as a YouTube link instead; besides, that way they are subjected to ads.

Oooh! I just tried this, and it works nicely. Thanks! My next experiment (since it sounds like you have only used this with video clips?) is to see if it changed the embed reference in such a way that the embedded doc still updates. Apparently some previous solutions that fixed sizing broke updatability (which apparently isn't a word, but should be), and docs had to be re-embedded whenever changes were made, sort of defeating the purpose of embedding instead of linking.

I agree that this would be a helpful feature. The district auto-populates our courses with students. For me to tell them which students to put into which sections would not necessarily be less time-consuming than the current method of editing each student individually. It would be really helpful for me to be able to either type a list of student names into the "Enrollment" section of the Sections page in settings, or to be able to check boxes to apply sections on the People page.

Totally agree with @mlion . I remarked to a colleague just last week that between me and somebody with coding experience, I would think a lot of issues that drive me insane could be resolved in a month of effort. For instance, this. One of my biggest pet peeves is also that there is no way to enter a special code for different kinds of zeroes. There are so many reasons why a kid might have a zero, and now I have to un-sync Canvas from my district gradebook and hand-enter all of my grades because it isn't functional enough.

@James, can you answer a question for me about Last Accessed and the calendar? Since students can access the calendar without opening a course, will clicking on Events on the course calendar register as course access and update the Last Accessed date (I guess assuming they looked at the calendar for at least two minutes, since that seems to be a limitation.) I had assumed it would, but I just looked at an Access Report for one of my students, and I don't see any Calendar clicks listed on it. (I guess these would be clicks for Events...? I don't know if there is even an Event icon?)
