This doesnt explain the upload of a syllabus.  I tried to insert document and that didnt work.

@LoisRockwell  On the assumption you have edit privileges on the syllabus page, the instructions are in  How do I upload a document in the Rich Content Edi...; the instructor can select the auto-open for inline preview for document types that are compatible with the viewer if they want the document to preview on the page; otherwise, the process creates a link to the syllabus file.
