[ARCHIVED] Math Editor not popping up

I have a couple of quizzes where the Math equation editor is showing at the bottom of the screen, not the usual pop-up box. This is only happening with a couple of quizzes, but it makes the editor unusable as it does not allow you to enter the equation into the question or answer where it needs to go. I am using the most recent version of Google Chrome and have cleared my cache and cookies. Does anyone have a fix to this problem?

If I'm understanding what you're describing, then you're the second person (that I've seen) with this issue this week. Here is the other thread Math equation editor showing at bottom of screen and they have a screen shot so you can see if it is what you're seeing.

You've already addressed two of the suggestions made there (current browser and cleared cache). Other suggestions are to reload the page (network issues sometimes happen, but clearing the cache normally takes care of that and if you're not seeing slow loads, it's potentially not an issue) are to use a different browser and see if that fixes it. That may be a solution if you're the teacher creating the question (which is how your question reads), but it's not really a good solution if it's happening for students answering a question.

You may also want to make sure that none of your cookies are getting blocked. If they are, there will be a cookie with a red x at the right of Chrome's location bar.

Depending on your level of debugging skill, you can press F12 in Chrome to open the browser's developer tools. Switch to the console tab and reload the page. Look for error messages (normally in red) because if there is an error, it can keep things from loading after that.

You may want to file a help ticket about this so that Canvas support is aware of the issue.

I went into F12 and received this error, but I have no idea what it means.

A cookie associated with a cross-site resource at https://support.microsoft.com/ was set without the `SameSite` attribute. A future release of Chrome will only deliver cookies with cross-site requests if they are set with `SameSite=None` and `Secure`. You can review cookies in developer tools under Application>Storage>Cookies and see more details at https://www.chromestatus.com/feature/5088147346030592 and https://www.chromestatus.com/feature/5633521622188032.

Is there a setting somewhere that needs to be tweaked?

That's a warning and I get at least one of them on almost every Canvas page I load. It's a security issue that's coming down the line where Chrome will soon stop accepting those cookies and they're letting you know that things may stop working. Canvas claims they have it taken care of for internal applications (a misstatement). I hadn't seen the one for Microsoft before. However, that's not the issue. The background on warnings is yellow.

An error would be with a red background and potentially spit out a trace (a bunch of function calls with line numbers).

Sure thing! In the Global Navigation Menu (the main one on the left in Canvas), find your Help link. Look for the link that says Report a Problem; click that, and complete the information in the form.
