Video overviews reflect current feature functionality in Canvas; they are updated based on workflow changes, not on minor or non-functional interface enhancements. Depending on your institution's Canvas theme, the Canvas interface may display differently than shown in this video, but the functionality is the same.

User Settings (All Users) Video Script

In this video, you will learn how to update your Canvas user settings. To get started, click the Account link in the Global Navigation menu and then click the Settings link. You can view all of your personal user settings such as your profile picture, name preferences, language, time zone, accepted usernames, web services, approved integrations, and feature settings.

If your institution has enabled profile pictures, to add or modify your profile picture, hover over your picture and click the Edit icon. You can upload a picture from your computer, take a picture using your computer’s camera, or import an image from an existing Gravatar account. When you’re finished, click the Save button.

If allowed by your institution, you may edit your user settings by clicking the Edit Settings button in the sidebar. You can edit your full name used for grading purposes by typing your name in the Full Name field. You can also edit your display name, which is used in discussions, messages, and comments, and the sortable name used in sorted lists. If enabled by your institution, you can select your personal pronouns, which will display following your name in areas throughout Canvas. You can also change your default email address, the language in which Canvas appears, your timezone, and your Canvas password. To save your changes, click the Update Settings button.

Finally, you can edit your Feature Settings, which controls Canvas features related to accessibility, spreadsheet exports, and celebration animations. To enable or disable a feature, click the State icon for the feature.
