Depending on your institution's Canvas theme, the Canvas interface may display differently than shown in this video, but the functionality is the same.

Outcomes Overview (Admins) Video Script

In this video, you will learn how to find, create, and manage Outcomes. To begin, click Outcomes in Account Navigation. In the first pane, you will see a list of all of your outcome groups. Click the group name to view the outcomes within that group. Then click the outcome name to view the details of the outcome. To delete the outcome, click the Delete Outcome button. Or to edit the outcome, click the Edit Outcome button. Move the outcome to another Group by clicking the Move Outcome button and selecting the new location.

If you are working at a sub-account level, you can import existing Account, State, or Common Core Standards by clicking the Find button. If you don't see your State or Common Core Standards on the list, contact your Customer Success Manager to have those standards imported to your Canvas account. Choose which Standards to import. You can import entire folders or just one outcome. Click the Import button when the desired folder or outcome is highlighted.

To add a new Outcome Group, click the Add Group button. Type a name for the group in the New Outcome Group field. Then, type a description in the Rich Content Editor. Click the Save button to create the group.

To add a new Outcome, select the group you would like to add the outcome to, and click the Add Outcome button. Enter the name of the outcome, and a friendly name if desired. A friendly name is a custom name to help students know what the outcome measures. Then, enter a description in the Rich Content Editor. Edit the criterion ratings by clicking the edit icon in the appropriate criteria. You can then change the name and point value by typing in the text fields. Delete the criteria by clicking the Delete button. Click Ok to save the new criteria. Add additional criterion ratings by clicking the Insert link and entering the information. Type in the point value necessary to master the learning outcome in the “Mastery at:” field. You can then specify one of four calculation methods used for student mastery - Decaying Average, n Number of Times, Most Recent Score, or Highest Score. Click the Save button to create the Outcome.

You can also bulk import outcomes for your account using a CSV file. To get started, click the Import button and drag and drop or select a file from your computer. While the file uploads, Canvas displays a loading page. If the import was not successful, Canvas will display an error message and you will receive an email. Correct the errors as indicated in the email and upload the file again. To reference the outcomes CSV formatting documentation, click the Outcomes CSV Format link. When the import is successful, Canvas will display a success message.
