We’re excited to introduce the newly refreshed Accessibility Community Group—a dedicated place for educators, designers, and accessibility advocates to connect, share insights, and collaborate on all things accessibility.

What’s New?

We’ve made key updates to enhance your experience, including:

  • Helpful Links & Resources – Easily find guidance on accessibility best practices.
  • Accessibility Toolkit – Access practical tools, resources, and best practices to use in creating inclusive learning experiences.
  • More Frequent Content – Stay informed with regular updates, discussions, and expert insights from your peers and the Instructure team.

Why This Matters Now

With the updated Title II accessibility requirements and upcoming enforcement of the European Accessibility Act (EAA), ensuring digital content is fully accessible isn’t just best practice—it’s essential. While this work has always been critical, with new regulations reinforcing the importance of equitable access, now is the time to come together, share strategies, and support one another in building accessible learning experiences for all learners.

Join the Conversation

This space thrives on community input and will play a large role in our collaboration on all things Accessibility. We’re eager to hear what is top of mind for you and how we can best partner with you. Whether you have a question, a success story, or a challenge you’re facing, we invite you to share and learn alongside peers committed to making learning more accessible for all.

Great to hear it's back! I was part of the Accessibility Community Group several years ago when it was actively meeting on Zoom. Please keep us posted if you will be doing virtual meetings again, too. These meetings were one of the most useful things for finding out what was new in Canvas, too!

Enjoy the day,

Liz

This re-energizing on the Accessibility group is much needed- happy to see it.

I am glad to find this because all the other information was old. How do I guide campus leaders who post Global Announcements so they are accessible to the visually impaired and reading-disabled? While helping a VI student today, I realized that an important announcement isn't accessible on many levels. Most importantly, they can't use ChromeVox or Don Johnston's Snap & Read tools. They post images (created from Google Slides or Canva) with intricate information that not all students can read.

Hey @scrider
Thanks for reaching out!
We have this great guide, Accessibility in Online Course Design in the Accessibility Toolkit that one of our amazing Instructional Designers wrote up that you can share with your leaders on best practices and creating accessible content for students.
I think one of the biggest things that leaders should be aware of is to keep things as simple as possible like using text instead of embedding an image or slide.  This ensures that most assistive technologies will be able to access that information as text is the most basic element.

Thanks, @LizPrickett! We will definitely share opportunities here as they arise. In addition, our product marketing team will share updates in the New and Next webinars that are held quarterly.
