Document signing with Canvas

Hey everyone,

We're looking into Canvas for our new platform.

We currently have students sign a number of documents after account creation and before they are able to do anything else on our site.

Would it be possible to integrate this into Canvas? Would developing an LTI make sense? Any help is much appreciated!

Deactivated user​,  what we did to get something like this is to create an "Ungraded Assignment" and in the body of the "Instructions" you can put the content of the document (or link to the document) with instructions that the student has to type his or her name as a digital signature.

This assignment is set up in a module as a pre-requisite before the student can move on to anything else.   Of course, this is at a course-level.  You could set up an orientation or "document signing" course that students have to "take" before they can take any other courses.

I don't know if that would meet your purposes or not, but I hope that helps.

Following up on Mark's in-class suggestion, the forms to be signed could also be PDF documents which permit an electronic signature. So student could download the PDF form and assignment as Mark stated, electronically sign it, then upload it to the assignment as a submission.

My concern with electronic signatures in any way shape or form is verifying that the signature actually belongs to the registered student.

Thanks for the tip Kelley. I understand the concern about electronic signatures! We currently use HelloSign which legally verifies online document signing, so we're looking to integrate that in some capacity.
