None of the other designers at my organization are having this issue, but I want to make sure it won't happen to students. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm not sure what the issue could be.

Hi @rsimizon,

It sounds like you might have something cached on your browser. I would have you try clearing cookies and cache of your browser and try logging in again. 

Also, you might have bookmarked a page with a file download, so try to log in without using a bookmark but go to the Canvas login page instead.
