Hello everyone,
Just recently, I've started having an issue when I try and download a file submission from a student in SpeedGrader. I get an "Access Denied: Access to this page is limited to authorized users. You do not currently have permission to view this page" error. As the Instructor of the course, and given that I've never had this issue before, this came as a surprise!
I'm on a Mac and it happens when I am using Safari, but does not happen on Chrome. So, the easy solution is obviously to change browsers which I am doing for the time being, but I prefer Safari, so I am hoping there is another solution.
I'm on Safari 15 (latest version) and I just cleared my history/cache as well, with no luck.
Thank you to anyone who has any ideas.
Solved! Go to Solution.
This is due to a new enabled-by-default option in Safari, “prevent cross-site tracking”. Turning this off fixed our issue.

That did it! Thank you!!!!
Thanks! I had a similar issue and it definitely seems to be related to third-party cookies.
(As an aside, it seems like one can't preview the files, which happens when you directly click on them, but one can download them by clicking on the three dots on the far right and selecting "Download")
Why is cross-site / third-party tracking needed to host a self-contained file in Canvas? It is a rather glaring accessibility issue that Canvas does not work with the default behaviour of the principle browser in Mac OS X.
