[ARCHIVED] Adding a horizontal line to a Canvas page using RCE

How do I add a horizontal line to a page using the Rich Context Editor? I see how to do so with code... but I also saw a new release that should allow us to do this in RCE, however my edit screen does not look like the release notes.

Hello,  @bandrews1  .    I was unaware that there was a way to insert a line with RCE.  I'm interested if someone else answers this question.  I was trained to go to a doc, make a line, save it as an image, and then insert it!

You are most likely using the old RCE and the release notes are about the new one.

In the new RCE, to insert a horizontal rule, you do the following:

1. Press Alt+F9 to bring up the editor menu
2. Select Insert
3. Choose Horizontal line

If you are not using the new RCE, consider yourself lucky as many things are more difficult to do with it and it currently has some serious issues for content creators. Everything that I do now takes 2-3 times the number of mouse clicks as the old RCE. As unfriendly as using the HTML editor may be for something you feel should be simple, I definitely would not enable it just to get a horizontal rule.

If you would like to enable it, go to your course settings and then choose the feature options tab. You're looking for RCE enhancements. If you cannot turn it on, then it may not be enabled at the institution level.

this may or may not be important to anyone, but just in case....

I use a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000. In order to get the ALT-F9 to work, I have to ensure that the F Lock key is on.

Indeed, there are slight variations based on keyboard. One of the first things I do when I get a new laptop is turn off the requirement to press Fn to actually get a function key. I use the function keys a lot more than I want to adjust the volume level from the keyboard.

For Windows users, it's Alt+F9. I think Mac users may have to press Alt+Fn+F9, but I wasn't sure so I didn't mention it.

Thank you for this information. Do you know if horizontal lines are read by screen readers?
