Is there a way to send an email message as I post an announcement? I understand that the end-user customizes their preferred notifications, yet as a professor, I would like to have the option to select "send the announcement as an email as well" just as I normally do in Blackboard (for example). I currently copy-paste the announcement and send it as an email with the disclaimer that the message might be a duplicate.

Within Canvas the default notification settings are to send Announcement notifications right away to email and as a push to mobile devices if users have installed the Canvas Student or Teacher app on a device.  All users have the ability to change their own notification to best suit how they want to receive them, and yes this means they do have the ability to not receive course Announcements by email if they don't want to.  There is no option for an instructor to force an Announcement to go out as an email message if someone doesn't want to receive it.
