[ARCHIVED] Announcements to specific groups of students within a course?

I would like to send an announcement to a select group of students within a course- is there a way to do this?

Is this done by generating a section or a group?

If I have 20 students and 20 observers, can I send announcements to just students?

Howdy,

If you want to only send to specific collection of students, you would have to make "Sections" from course settings.

Announcements are viewable by anyone in the course, it just depends on how users have their notifications set up as to whether they get notified or not. They don't work like messaging from the Inbox, where you can choose who it goes to.

I do not believe it's true that an instructor has to create sections to filter announcements.  If there are groups and an announcement is created within that group's space, the announcement goes only to group members, right?    Can someone from Canvas please weigh in on this?   Thanks!

We need the ability to send announcements to specific groups.  

Telling us that we need to create sections is not a "solution", since I have nine sections divided up into 27 groups.
