How do I enable anonymous student feedback? I could not see a setting like this for the Discussions...

Hi Petr,

Discussions in Canvas do not have the ability to post anonymously.  About the only method for students to provide anonymous feedback to other students would be using the Peer Review feature.  Below are links to general information about using Peer Review for Assignments and Discussions.  After you look at the overview pages toward the bottom will be a link to pages show you how to create them if that is what you want.

I am looking for ways for students to submit feedback to me. Obviously, that is most likely to happen if it is anonymous.

Would the peer review approach work?

By the way, I consider it an incomprehensible omission for anonymous submissions to be impossible in the discussions! I hope it will be corrected ASAP.

Anonymous feedback for the instructor, got it.  No, you don't want to use Peer Review for that.  The best way to do that would be with a Survey set to be anonymous.  Here is a guide with how to create one https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-26272-how-do-i-create-a-survey-in-my-course

I'm afraid that still doesn't do it. This will only poll the students when and if the instructor desires. But it does not enable students to seek response from the instructor of their own volition.

Anonymous submission of comments and posts in the discussion forum is critical.

I agree with you that an option like that would be valuable. I'm thinking on having a quiz with an open date in a special module named "feedback" maybe that will work?

As a student myself, I think a great solution for anonymity and also the ability to provide feedback would be the following:

The student goes to his profile. Selects Provide Feedback about a class, then a professor(if applicable), then chose the type of feedback you want to provide:
the way he teaches, about a specific class, topic, etc, .
Then the professor would go to menu and select a page where its only about Anonomous chats(one chat per feedback/comment/issue. feedbacks), so that if the same student has another issue a week later, the professor doesn't know its the same user.(hence different chats. and they can get resolved. or the professor can chose to not respond. it would only appear as a chat(for the student)) if professor replied. otherwise no chat is created for the student. 

As a student, I think surveys are useless, 
I only reply when I see there are chances to win a prize,

but either way I lie on polls just to finish quickly. 

Would do you think about this idea?? 

also, the professor could have a chance to feature specific feedbacks/comments/etc so that the class can see, or maybe vote if this person is right, so he can adjust toacordingly. 🙂 real-time feedback with your own class. i think students want to feel more like human beings, having real conversations with our professor, rather than just feeling like students and have that""admiration" or fear of a professor.

If there's a chance that my voice can be heard, I would be willing to meet with someone via zoom or another app to chat and give my personal view on the topic. Also, I could provide a detailed wireframe with user flows that you could hand off to the Strategy and design team to see and analyze. I'm sure they could find a much better solution. 🙂 Just need to do some real user research.  I also know that lots of schools teach User Experience classes; might as well give them the option to figure this out.

Im a fulltime online student at a community college and I use canvas daily. I know hoe this platform works.((or at least what I've experienced with the way my professors have used it to teach me.)
