In the browser on my iPad, the student's submission shows with all the annotation tools. However, when I try to underline or highlight with either the Apple pencil (or my own finger), the document moves. No line or highlight is made except a short line that is not where I put down the Apple pencil. When I change to the typing icon, select font size then touch the workpiece, the workpieces minimizes.
In other words, none of the annotation tools seem to let me annotate on the document.
What am I doing wrong?

I would highly suggest you use the Canvas Teacher app for annotations instead of the mobile web browser. I've heard of issues with annotations on the mobile web where they don't exist in the Canvas Teacher app. Here is some documentation to get started:
How do I add DocViewer annotations in the Teacher app on my iOS device?

This is exactly what the Canvas support person told me: they do not advise using Canvas in the browser on iOS devices.
At the time, I was restricted to the browser simply because the app wasn't allowing me to see student submissions at all.
The solution to the app problem was to delete and reinstall the app. Now the app again works.
Thanks for your reply!
I’m not having any luck with either the web interface or the app. The app doesn’t show me the submissions (and yes, I deleted and reinstalled the app) and the web interface doesn’t let me annotate on the screen (iPad).
Please help!!
I have exactly the same problem, but the Canvas Teacher app always sends me to the Safari browser upon login. If there's any way to work within the app itself, it gives no clue how to do that.
@rebecca_sager and @lglen2 -- I use the Canvas Teacher app on my iPad and Android phone daily and haven't noticed any issues. I want to make sure you have this amazing flexibility with communication and grading too! What submission type do your students use?
@dpesetsky -- When you sign into Canvas Teacher, you should stay inside the app and arrive at the dashboard. From there, you should be able to access your courses, to-do list, and inbox. Have you shared this with Canvas Support? How do I get help with the Teacher app on my iOS device?
