@AIMEEPARKERSON and @laurie_merrick What you want to do is create a section for those students. All items (quizzes, assignments, and discussions) can be assigned to sections. Groups is really just for group assignments.

Once you have created a section, here is how you assign stuff specifically to that section without having to type out all the students (this is an example for an assignment):

So, I would create two sections for the issue you described. One for students who can have the Sex Ed content and one for those that can't. Students can be in multiple sections so you can leave your students in the main section of the course and then also assign them in this new one. Then follow the steps in the second link I shared.
I will be honest, I think this should all work fine with mastery paths but I have not really tested that aspect of it.
