[ARCHIVED] Best method to clear course assingment submissions

Hi -

What methods do most designers have in place/suggest when utilizing a course for a new cohort? I don't want to delete the old course rather keep it open for users for a month or so then close it out to users. I don't want to reset as this clears out all assignments etc - not something I care to recreate. Suggestions and ideas are welcome...

We don't delete or reset any of our past courses.  We allow our instructors to access past courses whenever they need.  Each semester, our instructors get brand new course shells to copy/import content from either a past semester or from our "Master Term" where we house master versions of courses we build.

At our institution semesters, courses, faculty assignments and student enrollments are all managed in the Student Information System.  We have an integration to pull that information into Canvas automatically.

If a course is created for a new semester that was taught in a previous semeseter, the instructor can request a copy of the course from the previous semester, which copies all of the assignment groups, assignments, pages, syllabus, quizzes / question banks, grading sheme, etc. into the new course.  At the same time previous students and submissions are left behind.  From there the instructor can simply reuse the existing content or make any changes to reflect updates to the course.

Basically, we follow a similar path laid out by  @Chris_Hofer ​.
