[ARCHIVED] Can you add specific Kaltura videos in My Media directly to a module?

Hi all,

We use the Kaltura integration with Canvas on my campus, and it seems like the only way to share content from My Media with students is to embed the videos into a page and then add the page to a module. It would be much more efficient to just be able to select specific videos from My Media via "Add External Tool" when adding items to a module.

I've tried adding Kaltura My Media as an external tool to a module, but it seems like it just links to the whole My Media location rather than a particular video.

Does anyone know of a more efficient way to add specific videos to modules, or are we currently limited to adding via pages?

Second, It looks like you have stumped the Canvas Community.  Were you able to find an answer to your question? I am going to go ahead and mark this question as answered because there hasn't been any more activity in a while so I assume that you have the information that you need. Hi all,

The short answer here is "it depends"....

If your institution has upgraded to the LTI 1.3 integration with Kaltura, you should be easily able to add a specific video to your module.  You may want to ask your LMS Administrator / e-learning team / or IT department about their plans for this upgrade if you're not yet on LTI 1.3.  We upgraded to the LTI 1.3 integration last year and this has been one of the biggest benefits of the upgrade for us.

For the original LTI 1.1 integration, you'd have to first add the video to your Media Gallery, then copy the link from there, and when adding an external took in modules, you could paste the link in.  This generally works, but you may run into authentication issues depending on the exact config and I think this is technically unsupported and considered a bit of a hack.
