Hi @SusanSeyfarth, CSS mods should not be necessary here. If you visit the Authentication settings page for your root account (<school>.instructure.com/accounts/<account_id>/authentication_providers) you can set the Login Label in the SSO Settings area as "Firstname.Lastname" or whatever text you'd like. Once you save that change, the login page should use that label. -Chris

Hi @Aundrinea, The user likely needs to verify their email, even though they may be able to log in to their Canvas account with it right now. I found some steps to do this (the site is external to the community, but the steps there should be universal). Once the user does that, you should be able to add them via email. Alternatively, as the message in the screenshot suggests, you should be able to add then via login_id or sis_id if you know either of those values for the user. Hope this helps a bit! -Chris

Hi @Instructor001, This is probably something that you'll need to contact Canvas Support about, as an internal error like that is going to be very hard to troubleshoot. With that being said, I see in your screenshot that you're enrolled in the course as both a teacher and a student. Dual roles like that can cause some unexpected behavior in Canvas, and perhaps this is one area that doesn't work well with dual roles. Id' try removing your student role if you have the ability and see if things work after that. I would also recommend editing your post and removing that screenshot, or at least cropping it to only show the error message. Right now it's revealing some names and email addresses that should likely be private. -Chris

Hi @GwendolynRaubol, We use Watermark CES (formerly EvaluationKit) here as well, and I'm the admin for both Canvas and Watermark CES. I can say that we have not had these problems at all, and we've has the system since late 2014. I think you may have hit the nail on the head with username inconsistencies though. If a user's login, email, or sis_id changes, it can cause havok in 3rd party integrations depending what data they are using to identify a user. This probably isn't a short-term solution, but I'd really recommend doing whatever you can to minimize or eliminate username changes for your faculty and students. I know there are situations where users want their usernames to change (marriage being a big one), but sometimes the headaches these changes can cause just aren't worth it. Watermark specifically checks a user's role before making the Course Evaluations menu available, and I don't believe the menu will show for a Canvas user who has no evaluations in Watermark under their current login. Maybe Watermark can give you a solution for this, but I imagine there could be a lot of manual work involved to get usernames in sync between Canvas and Watermark at this point. I hope this helps a bit even though it may not be a complete answer for you. -Chris

Hi @dineshkumar_tha, I'm going to move this post over to the developers area where there are more API/LTI experts who might be able to answer this question. I'm curious as to why an external tool would need to know whether an assignment/content was inherited from a blueprint... Is this a reporting tool you're building, or something else? I have a feeling that providing more info about the end goal and purpose might help people answer this or provide alternative suggestions. -Chris

Hi @LeilaBucher, The couple things that come to my mind first are: Does the section they are enrolled in have any dates associated with it? It sounds like you looked at the course level dates/term, but the section could also override that. Has the teacher's enrollment been concluded for some reason? This could put the course in somewhat of a read-only state for them if that happened. Let us know if either of these things end up being the problem. If they are not, we might be able to some up with some additional ideas on what could be going on. -Chris

Hi @JenaWebb, There are a lot of variables in play here (how enrollments are handled at your school/institution, what access options are enabled/disabled, are course shells reused for multiple semesters, etc). It may help if you can tell us what you see on the people page of the course for the person you're trying to add. Does it show the "pending" next to the user's name right now? It could be that they were already part of the course and therefore adding them again really doesn't do anything. Giving us this small bit of info might help us to provide some suggestions or answers for you. -Chris

Hi @concepts4change, I generally agree with @SusanNiemeyer that when you're designing assessments/assignments/tests/quizzes to be delivered through Canvas, you likely do need to think of them as "open book". Even if your school employs tools like Lockdown Browser or has online proctoring systems available, they are very flawed and can be gotten around pretty easily by savvy students. Thinghs like authentic assessments and project/practice based learning can help, but that definitely requires work on the part of the teacher to redesign things. Now with that general statement out of the way, this Canvas++ video hit a lot of Canvas admin circled maybe 6 months ago or so. The general consensus in the groups I'm in is that the video/app is totally fake. I tend to have that opinion myself as the video talks about showing "answers to assignments", which as a teacher you probably realize is not possible since Canvas does not store "answers" to assignments. The one thing Canvas does store is answers to some types of quiz questions, but those would never be available to students even using a "hack" app like the video supposedly shows unless they had teacher or administrative credentials. While I cannot say for sure, I think it's likely that whatever would be installed following the instructions in the video is actually malware/spyware, as it's talking about VPNs, device certificates, etc... Again, I do not have any evidence for this, but in my head it's very likely. I hope this helps a bit. Maybe some other people who have seen this video in the past will chime in with their opinions as well. -Chris

Hi @Vsanchez2204200, I can tell you that Canvas itself cannot take screenshots of where you may have browsed while taking a quiz, it can detect if you've left the quiz window and teachers can see reports of that. With that being said, there are 3rd party plugins to Canvas that can allow for screenshots and recordings to be taken. The users here in the global Canvas Community can't access your specific Canvas environment, so we have no way to know what may be in use for your particular school/institution. Ultimately, conversations about academic integrity issues like this have to happen between the student and teacher first. If you, as the student, are unhappy with the results of the conversation with your teacher, you may have an appeal process available to you, but that would be something you'd need to talk with someone at your school (probably in administration) to figure out. I know this may not answer your question fully, but it's really the best we can do in the community, and for that reason I am going to mark this as the solution so we know an answer has been provided. Please do feel free to reply back to this thread if you have more questions or feel the info provided so far isn't sufficient. -Chris

Hi @PaulMartino1, Graded discussions fall into the "assignment" category, which means that files attached to those posts should not count towards either the course or user quote (as assignments are basically exempt). Attachments for discussions which are not graded should count towards the user quota. If you're having students attach small things like a word file, you should generally be okay. If you're doing larger things like powerpoints with a lot of images, students may quickly run out of space and be unable to post new things without deleting previous files (which can be a grading nightmare). Hi @KristinaB, I don't believe there is really a single source to pull this info from. In the UI, teachers/admins can use the New Analytics attendance tab to get this information (depending how attendance is configured for your Canvas instance), but I don't believe there's an API to pull that out into excel. There is the student access report that does list now many times the student participated, but the only date is the the last viewed, which may not be when they participated, so that report is ruled out. With the API, you can make a series of calls to list quizzes, discussions, and assignments then see if the student has any submissions from those and if so when the submission was made. You'd use the most recent date found there. It's a lot of API calls, especially for courses with a lot of assignments and discussions, so be prepared to wait a minute or two for all of the API calls to complete. As an alternative, I'm sure you could do some lookups in Canvas Data as well, which might be faster than going the API route. Unfortunately, I'm not a Canvas Data expert at all, so I can't really give any guidance, but wanted to mention it as a possibility. I hope this helps a bit. Hi @BrigidaAguerrev, In addition to the info @Chris_Hofer asked about, could you also visit the Files area in your course to check your available storage space? There should be a percentage bar at the bottom of the files page indicating how much storage you have used. If you're at or near 100%, that can cause errors when trying to upload new material. -Chris

Hi @KennedyWestcott, I would definitely report that issue to Canvas Support and/or your school/institution's Canvas team (usually in the eLearning / IT / Digital Education areas) as soon as you can. I just checked my institution's Canvas instance, and New Analytics is launching correctly here. Seems like there might be an isolated issue with your Canvas instance that someone will need to research and correct. I hope this helps a bit! -Chris

Hi @cara_chen, I'm not aware of a built-in way to do everything you've outlined here... You could definitely do a gradebook export and a download bulk submissions for single assignments, but that's going to be a lot of manual work for someone to do, and it doesn't cover things like instructor comments either. If you have local developers, they might be able to use the Canvas API and/or Canvas Data to come up with a script to automate this, but that may take some time and I'm not sure how soon you're transitioning away from Canvas. Hi @GeoffreyWheeler, Because of the particulars you already mentioned here (things showing on your to-do list, not showing in speedgrader, and having no due dates at all), I think this is likely a case to contact Canvas Support about so they can look at the details and figure out if there may be a bug or something else going on here. Users in the global community here can't access your exact account or Canvas instance, so for an issue like this it's hard for us to provide much guidance ourselves. -Chris

Hi @KatieStanger, Can you perhaps post a screenshot of the popup message you're seeing? I'm not familiar with the message and it would help to see the exact wording. Refreshing isn't a term that Canvas generally uses, so my guess is it could be referring to refreshing/reloading the page in your web browser, but I could be totally wrong. Any additional info/screenshots you can provide would be really helpful. If other students are working in the course already, it doesn't seem like there would be an issue with the course itself, so I hope we can help to narrow down the problem with the selected students with the additional info... I'd also suggest letting your school/institution Canvas team (usually in the eLearning / IT / Digital Education areas) know about the issue, as they may have some local customizations that we in the global community here wouldn't know about. Hi @MichelleC1, I do think you've already identified the issue. The Canvas Account Comparison - Instructure Community document shows that the "Calendar Course Appointment Scheduler" feature is not available in the Free for Teacher Canvas. Sorry I don't have better news, but I hope this at least provides a solid answer to your question. Hi @pmellalieu, Unfortunately, I don't think this is a question the community here will be able to easily answer since it sounds like you have a custom LTI 1.3 integration someone developed that's generating the notifications. You'll probably need to have a developer comb through the code for the LTI looking for instances where the username or id of the support person may have been hardcoded in, as I don't think Canvas itself would add people to a notification on it's own. Sorry i couldn't provide more info, but I hope this gives you a direction to go in to get this figured out and adjusted. -Chris

Hi @MoatazKhan12, I have not used that particular API, nor have I done anything this ambitious myself in terms of customizations. I don't want to discourage you from looking around and trying some things, but I think this is actually a pretty complex customization, especially if you want the users to enter the info themselves form with in Canvas. Something else to consider is how this would work with mobile apps, as the same customizations that apply to the web version of Canvas will not generally apply to the mobile app. Because of the uniqueness and complexity of these things, I don't think there is any real good guide to point you to. I will move this post to the developers area where someone else might chime in. I know @James has done a lot of what I think are called "Canvancements" in the past, but I'm not sure how much of that kind of work he still does or if he might have any pointers for you.
